The LPN/RN Staff Nurse is a licensed nurse who provides nursing/resident care under the direction of the Director of Nursing and RNs to meet standards of professional care as established.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Responsible for supervising and coordinating the medical care and activities performed by Certified Nursing Assistants, Infirmary Assistant, and driver in the absence of or direction from the DON.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Responsible under the direction of the DON for supervision of nurse aides per assigned.
- Assists Sisters with all medical or therapeutic needs per scope of practice.
- Assists in or performs direct nursing care as needed.
- Communicates with outside healthcare providers as needed or directed by DON or physician.
- Networks with other departments to ensure continuity of care.
- Promotes team environment; reports pertinent information at change of
- Documents on all Infirmary Sisters during scheduled shift.
- Reports on safety concerns as needed.
- Assesses the quality of care rendered.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Knowledge of healthcare environments. Maintains the standards of nursing practice in the infirmary.
- Demonstrates skills in effective management of nurse aides and delegation of tasks during.
- Ability to assess and prioritize tasks, projects, and demands in a timely manner.
- Excellent organizational skills.
Education and Experience:
- Licensed Practical Nurse or Registered Nurse with a current state license.
- At least 1 year of experience required.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of standing and moving.
- Maintain proper body mechanics and use assistive equipment as needed (lifts, gait belts).
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds at times with or without assistance.
- Possible exposure to bodily fluids and infectious diseases.
