Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced, discreet, and highly professional private housekeeper to maintain a household in New York, NY. This full-time, live-out position is responsible for the overall cleanliness, organization, and day-to-day upkeep of the residence, with an emphasis on attention to detail, reliability, and sound judgment. The ideal candidate takes pride in their work, anticipates household needs, and can be trusted to work independently within a private home.
Reporting & Communication
- Reports to the owner's personal assistant on a day-to-day basis, and to the owner's family office manager on occasion
- A company computer will not be provided; the candidate should be comfortable communicating and coordinating tasks via Telegram and email using a personal mobile device
Key Responsibilities
Core Housekeeping & Cleaning
- Maintain the overall cleanliness, order, and presentation of the residence, including bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchen, living areas, offices, and hallways
- Dust, vacuum, sweep, and mop all interior spaces, including upholstered furniture, stairs, baseboards, and hard-surface floors
- Clean and sanitize bathrooms and kitchen surfaces, including appliances, counters, cabinet fronts, and fixtures; perform periodic deep cleaning of appliances and rotating deep-clean projects throughout the home
- Empty trash and recycling; clean interior windows, mirrors, and glass; spot-clean doors, walls, switches, and other high-touch surfaces
- Maintain cleaning supplies and equipment, and proactively flag household maintenance or cleaning issues to the family
Laundry, Linens & Garment Care
- Collect, wash, dry, fold, iron/steam, and put away household laundry and clothing (adult, and children's in the future)
- Change and rotate bed linens, towels, bath mats, and kitchen linens on an agreed schedule; treat routine stains and identify items requiring specialty care
- Maintain organized linen closets, closets, drawers, and wardrobes
- Prepare guest beds and rooms before visitors and refresh/reset rooms after departure
Kitchen, Pantry & Household Supplies
- Keep the kitchen clean, organized, and ready for daily use; load and unload the dishwasher and hand-wash delicate items
- Maintain an organized pantry, refrigerator, and freezer; monitor expiration dates, receive grocery deliveries, and wash/organize produce as requested
- Maintain coffee/tea/beverage stations and reset the kitchen after family meals
Home Organization
- Return household items to their designated places and maintain organized closets, drawers, cabinets, entryways, and storage areas
- Assist with unpacking household purchases and periodic decluttering projects
Packages, Mail & Deliveries
- Receive, unpack, and put away routine deliveries as directed; break down and recycle shipping boxes
- Collect mail and place it in a designated location; be present for scheduled deliveries or service appointments when requested
Family & Child-Related Household Support (Anticipated)
- Maintain children's bedrooms, play areas, and belongings, including toys, books, and art supplies
- Wash, fold, and put away children's clothing and bedding; wash bottles, cups, and other children's kitchen items
- Prepare children's bags and supplies for school or activities, and restock diapers, wipes, and other supplies as requested
Pet-Related Household Support
- Refresh pet food and water, maintain feeding areas, and clean bowls and routine pet messes
Guest & Entertaining Support
- Prepare and stock guest rooms and bathrooms before visitors arrive; refresh spaces during longer stays and reset after departure
- Set tables, arrange serving areas, assist with simple food and beverage setup, and clean/reset the home after gatherings
Travel & Residence Preparation
- Prepare the residence before and after family travel, including handling perishables, trash, and laundering travel items
- Coordinate pre-arrival cleaning or other services as needed; assist with seasonal opening/closing of a second residence if applicable
Fine Home & Luxury Care
- Follow appropriate care procedures for marble, natural stone, hardwood, and other fine finishes and furnishings
- Polish silver and specialty items; maintain organized china, crystal, and serving collections; coordinate specialty cleaning of rugs, upholstery, drapery, or artwork rather than attempting unsuitable cleaning
- Maintain high presentation standards throughout formal and guest areas

- Maintain strict discretion and confidentiality regarding the family, residence, household affairs, schedules, and personal information, both during and after employment
- Communicate clearly about priorities, completed tasks, and issues requiring attention; ask before making significant changes to household organization or routines
- Follow household preferences for products, laundry, food, children, pets, and personal belongings
- Handle household property carefully and report damage or breakage promptly
- Maintain reliable attendance and punctuality, and manage time effectively across recurring duties and special projects
- Maintain professional boundaries and respectful communication at all times
- Personal cell phone use and social media should be reserved for breaks; devices should not be used for personal purposes during working hours
Qualifications
- Prior professional experience as a housekeeper required
- Fluent English speaker
- Valid driver's license
- High degree of discretion, professionalism, and sound judgment
Confidentiality & Non-Disclosure
This role requires an exceptional degree of discretion. The employee will have regular access to private family information, the residence, and household affairs, and must maintain strict confidentiality regarding all such matters at all times, including after employment ends.
- Candidate will be required to sign a confidentiality/non-disclosure agreement (NDA) prior to starting employment
- The employee will be separately compensated for signing the NDA
Employment Terms
- This position includes a 90-day introductory/trial period beginning on the start date; employment is at-will throughout this time period and after its completion, and either party may end the employment relationship at any time
- This is a salaried (not hourly) position; however, under New York's Domestic Workers' Bill of Rights, the role remains non-exempt from overtime. Overtime is paid at 1.5x the regular rate for any hours worked beyond 40 in a calendar week
