GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The Sweeper Support Truck Operator supports street sweeping operations by driving a truck and trailer along designated routes ahead of the sweeper to perform pre-sweeping debris removal and vegetation control. The role involves both vehicle operation and manual labor, including the use of power tools and chemicals.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES
Duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Operate a truck and trailer on assigned sweeping routes to clear larger debris and prepare the path for street sweeper vehicles
- Identify and remove bulky items or obstructions from roadways, gutters, curbs, and sidewalks before the sweeper pass
- Perform vegetation control tasks including trimming overgrown areas, operating power trimmers and blowers, and other tasks as required.
- Assist in tire changing and other roadside repairs on both the sweeper and support vehicles

Load and unload equipment safely from the trailer and secure tools during transit
- Perform routine equipment checks and basic maintenance on vehicles and tools
- Communicate with street sweeper operators and supervisors to ensure efficient coordination of route timing and service delivery.
- Maintain accurate logs and reports of debris volume, weed control activities, and any unusual findings on routes
- Adhere to all safety, environmental, and operational procedures, including proper handling and documentation of chemical applications
- Report any roadway hazards, vehicle concerns, or safety incidents promptly

QUALITIFICATIONS
Job qualifications may include, but are not limited to, the following:

High school diploma or GED
- Valid state driver’s license with a clean driving record (CDL a plus but not required)
- At least 1 year of experience in grounds maintenance, landscaping, field services, or commercial driving is preferred
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check
- Ability to pass a fitness test including lifting up to 50 lbs without restrictions and performing physical tasks in outdoor environments

Familiarity with job-related OSHA and DOT regulations.
SKILLS and ABILITIES

Strong vehicle operation skills and confidence in towing and maneuvering trailers
- Familiarity with small engine tools such as trimmers, backpack blowers, and sprayers
- Familiarity with changing tires and using basic hand tools

Knowledge of basic safety protocols related to landscaping tools
- Excellent time management and ability to work independently or as part of a route team
- Comfortable working in all weather conditions and physically demanding environments
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position involves outdoor work in all weather conditions. Must be able to stand, walk, bend, lift, and use hand tools for extended periods. The role may involve early morning or night shifts, overtime, and occasional weekend or holiday work depending on operational needs.
