Duties
- Safely operate school buses in accordance with traffic laws, vehicle codes, and transportation safety regulations.
- Conduct pre-trip inspections to ensure the vehicle is in optimal condition, including checking mechanical systems and safety equipment.
- Follow designated routes and schedules precisely, responding quickly to traffic changes or unexpected delays.
- Assist students boarding and exiting the bus, including providing wheelchair assistance and ensuring proper behavior management.
- Maintain a safe environment onboard by enforcing student discipline policies and promoting passenger safety.
- Respond appropriately to emergency situations by following emergency response procedures for transportation, including CPR and first aid when necessary.
- Communicate effectively with school staff, parents, and emergency responders to coordinate student safety and address any concerns.
Skills
- Proven experience in bus driving, commercial driving, or school bus operation with a strong understanding of traffic laws and vehicle codes.
- Knowledge of transportation safety regulations, emergency response procedures, and defensive driving techniques.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting when necessary for loading or securing equipment or mobility aids.
- Excellent communication skills in English; bilingual abilities are a plus for engaging with diverse communities.
- Experience working with children or in childcare settings, demonstrating patience and behavior management skills.
- Mechanical knowledge of vehicle systems for basic troubleshooting and maintenance awareness.
- Familiarity with student discipline policies, child protection practices, and school policies related to transportation.
