Project Engineer (Federal Construction)
Location: Projects based in California, Alaska, and Massachusetts (relocation assistance/per diem offered)
Reports To: Project Manager
A leading federal construction contractor is seeking a Project Engineer to support the planning, coordination, execution, and administration of a large infrastructure project. This role will work closely with project leadership, design teams, subcontractors, and client representatives to help ensure the project is delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with contract requirements.
Project Planning & Coordination

Coordinate with architects, engineers, consultants, and project stakeholders throughout design and construction.

Assist with development of project schedules, budgets, procurement plans, and work plans.

Review drawings and specifications for constructability and distribute project documentation to project teams.

Support planning efforts during preconstruction and project start-up activities.
Construction Management

Assist in developing, maintaining, and updating project schedules.

Process change orders, contract modifications, and scope revisions.

Support procurement activities and subcontractor/vendor management.

Track project costs and assist with budget control efforts.

Identify project risks and assist in developing mitigation strategies.

Coordinate site access requirements, permits, and project logistics as needed.
Construction Oversight

Support day-to-day field operations to ensure work complies with project plans and specifications.

Coordinate subcontractors, suppliers, and vendors to support schedule objectives.

Assist with monitoring project safety and quality performance.

Participate in project meetings, site walks, inspections, and progress reviews.
Documentation & Reporting

Prepare meeting minutes and track action items.

Manage Requests for Information (RFIs), submittals, and project correspondence.

Assist with project reporting, documentation, and record keeping.

Support quality control inspections and project closeout activities.

Maintain accurate project logs and document control systems.

Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field, or equivalent construction experience.

Experience as a Project Engineer, Assistant Project Manager, Project Coordinator, or related construction management role.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.

Experience using Procore, Primavera P6, AutoCAD, or similar construction management software.

Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced construction environment.

Willingness to travel and temporarily relocate near the project site.

Federal construction experience.

Heavy civil, infrastructure, utility, water/wastewater, or environmental construction projects.

Experience supporting projects involving underground utilities, treatment facilities, pump stations, pipelines, or site development.

Familiarity with government contract requirements and project documentation processes.

Experience working with owners, designers, subcontractors, and regulatory agencies.
