Sierra Senior Services is seeking a dependable and enthusiastic Part-Time Cook (Wed - Fri 7am-3pm) to join our Meals on Wheels kitchen team. Every meal you prepare helps older adults maintain their health, independence, and quality of life. Working alongside an experienced culinary team, you'll prepare fresh, nutritious meals in a fast paced, collaborative kitchen where quality, teamwork, and compassion come together every day. Responsibilities
- Prepare nutritious meals according to standardized recipes and approved menus.
- Prepare hot and cold food items, including soups, salads, vegetables, starches, and special diet meals.
- Ensure meals meet quality, appearance, and portion control standards.
- Package meals for home delivered participants according to daily production schedules.
- Follow all food safety, sanitation, HACCP, and temperature monitoring procedures.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen, including equipment and workstations.
- Receive, inspect, label, rotate, and store food deliveries using First In, First Out (FIFO) procedures.
- Assist with congregate meal service, meal production, and special events as assigned.
- Work collaboratively with the kitchen team to ensure efficient daily operations.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- One year of commercial or institutional food preparation experience preferred.
- Experience preparing large quantities of food preferred.
- Experience working in a nonprofit, healthcare, senior nutrition, school nutrition, or institutional kitchen is preferred.
- Knowledge of proper food handling, sanitation, and food safety regulations.
- Ability to safely operate commercial kitchen equipment.
- Strong organizational, communication, and time management skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast paced environment.
- ServSafe Food Handler certification, or the ability to obtain certification as required.
- Professional, dependable, and positive attitude.
