The Innovation & Technology Division supports the entire agency through three primary sections:
- Digital Innovation & Enterprise Cloud Platforms
- IT Operations
- Enterprise Governance and Risk
The Digital Innovation & Enterprise Cloud Platforms Section drives modernization and digital service delivery across Commerce. It designs and administers enterprise platforms, promotes cloud-native practices, and supports programs in creating secure, reliable, and cost-effective digital solutions.
The
SharePoint Online & AI Platform Lead serves as the agency’s senior technical authority for SharePoint Online, M365 collaboration platforms, and emerging AI platforms. This position reports directly to the IT Senior Application Development Manager and functions as a lead technical worker within the Enterprise Cloud Platforms team.
The position does not supervise employees, but exercises lead responsibility, including assigning technical work, guiding priorities, providing mentorship, and ensuring platform alignment with enterprise architecture, security, governance, and agency strategy.
This position is responsible for:
- Leading SharePoint Online enterprise architecture, governance, and lifecycle management.
- Administering enterprise-wide M365 and AI platform configurations, controls, and standards.
- Ensuring secure, responsible, and scalable integration of AI features and emerging AI tools.
- Serving as the agency’s subject matter expert (SME) for SharePoint Online and enterprise AI platforms.
- Providing senior technical leadership to systems administrators and development staff.
- Provides hands-on technical support, user enablement, and solution development assistance to agency staff to ensure effective adoption and use of SharePoint Online, M365, and enterprise AI platforms.
The role supports modernization, digital efficiency, collaboration, and safe AI adoption across the Department of Commerce.
Required Experience:
One of the following:
- A Bachelor’s degree or higher in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a closely related field AND five (5) years (full-time equivalent) of progressively responsible professional experience in one or more of the following IT disciplines:
o Microsoft 365 systems administration
o SharePoint Online administration and governance
o Enterprise collaboration platform management
o Application development or automation using Power Platform
o Systems analysis, integration, or platform lifecycle support
o AI platform administration or responsible-use governance
OR
- An Associate’s degree or higher in Information Technology or a closely related field AND seven (7) years (full-time equivalent) of progressively responsible professional experience in one or more of the IT disciplines listed above; OR
- Nine (9) years (full-time equivalent) of progressively responsible professional experience in one or more of the IT disciplines listed above.
Additional professional experience may substitute for education on a one-for-one basis, consistent with OFM guidelines.
At least five (5) years of advanced professional experience performing senior-level administration, configuration, troubleshooting, and governance in the following areas:
- SharePoint Online enterprise administration
- M365 collaboration ecosystem (Teams, OneDrive, Power Platform)
- Power Automate and Power Apps solution development and troubleshooting
- Information architecture, taxonomy, metadata and content governance
- Tier 3 incident response across cloud services
- Security, privacy, compliance, access control, and responsible-use controls in M365 and/or AI platforms
- Technical documentation for system designs, standards, and procedures
- Delivering end-user training, mentoring, or hands-on support for enterprise collaboration platforms.
Desired Experience:
- Experience serving as a lead worker assigning work, providing mentorship, or reviewing work products.
- Experience supporting or governing enterprise AI platforms, including configuration, responsible-use standards, semantic index readiness, and data-access controls.
- Experience coordinating platform operations or governance with statewide partners.
- Experience with Microsoft 365 tenant-level or enterprise platform operations.
- Microsoft certifications in SharePoint Online, Microsoft 365 Administration, Power Platform, or AI-related technologies.
- ITIL Foundation certification (current version).
- Experience designing enterprise metadata schemas, classifications, taxonomies, and content-lifecycle governance.
- Experience with APIs, Microsoft Graph, enterprise integrations, or workflow automation technologies.
- Experience developing and delivering technical training, demonstrations, and user-enablement materials.

Work from Anywhere in Washington State
This position may be located anywhere within Washington State though occasional travel to a Commerce office building or in-state travel to attend events or meetings may be required. If selected, you will need to travel to pick up equipment and receive instruction. Many Commerce employees work remotely or have a hybrid schedule.
