Safety Officer
General Purpose
Be a team member of the corporate safety and health programs for all entities with overall responsibility for activities supporting the creation, implementation and maintenance of safety and health systems to foster a culture of safety across all areas of the organization.
As Site Safety Officer (SSHO) within our organization, you will be responsible for a wide variety of tasks related to our projects and company including assisting in day-day operations on the project site and managing safety. You will be on site during construction and will be responsible for the safety and occupational health management, surveillance, inspections and safety enforcement. Success in this position requires a dynamic individual with high energy and motivation We seek high-potential individuals who can learn quickly and grow with the organization, assuming additional responsibility as the organization expands. Critical responsibilities include:
· Regularly walk the job site to identify hazards, ensure compliance with regulations, and enforce procedures. Inspections may include checking for proper safety gear and signage· Create and manage safety plans and procedures to mitigate risks and promote safety awareness· Maintain a safety and health deficiency tracking system to monitor outstanding deficiencies until resolution. Distribute a list of unresolved safety and health deficiencies· Write weekly safety reports that document hazards, updated safety plans, and any worker safety concerns. Also document and report when a safety incident happens, and update risk mitigation plans to prevent similar incident· Write Safety proposals, interpret regulations, develop training, draft inspection standards and draft safety assessment tools· Discuss safety issues with project managers, contractors, and other project professionals, and keep management informed of findings · Assist with site access, including all site visits and deliveries· Assist in project and business development responsibilities during development and implementation· Collect field information and pictures as necessary· Perform other field or office duties as assigned.
Required qualifications include but are not limited to:
- Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety and health (preferred not required)
- 5 years of experience in construction and safety management required
- Experience with construction, construction management, or on-site field work is preferred
- CHST and CSP preferred
- Self-directed personality with a commitment to excellence
- Detail oriented and honed observation skills
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Interest in project and construction management
- Demonstrated ability to function in high performing, multi-disciplinary teams that provide reliable customer satisfaction
- Knowledge and experience with Safety and Quality Control standards and procedures
- Ability to anticipate challenges and proactively resolve them
- Ability to anticipate and solve problems that are not fully defined or expected
- Engineering, analytical, and technical writing skills preferred
- Knowledge of EM 385 would be a plus but not required.
· Safety – 2-5 years’ experience with the following minimum certifications OSHA 30, First Aid CPR, CSP, ASP, OSHA 510 OSHA 500 preferred
Physical Demands:
· While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear, walk, sit, and use hands to operate computer keyboard and telephone
· The employee must have visual acuity sufficient to operate motor vehicle and digital camera, as well as other equipment
· The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move 100 pounds
· The employee is required to reach with hands and arms; balance; and stoop, kneel or crouch
Other Requirements:
· Able to prove U.S. Employment eligibility
· Ability to pass drug screening
· Ability to pass formal background check
· Must possess a valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record for past three years
· Ability to communicate with others both orally and written. Must be clearly understood and have a good command of the English language
· Must have a neat personal appearance
· Business must be conducted with the highest level of personal integrity
· Consistently maintain the confidentiality of sensitive company information
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $70,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
