Research Scientist III
POSITION HIGHLIGHTS
Non-tenure track research role focused on research and related support activities within an Investigator-led laboratory.
Plans and performs experiments directed toward answering specific scientific questions with limited supervision under the general guidance of the Principal Investigator.
Applies scientific, technical, and functional knowledge to support experiment and project design aligned with laboratory goals.
Contributes to manuscripts, grants, publications, and other research dissemination activities.
May mentor, train, and serve as a resource to other members of the laboratory, including research trainees as applicable.

Brings advanced scientific expertise in life science, pathology, genomics or a related research area.

Communicates complex scientific concepts clearly and collaborates well with faculty, lab members, administrative staff, vendors, and scientific collaborators.
Shows sustained publication impact in peer-reviewed journals and contributes meaningfully to research output.

Has a broad base of technical skillsets in the wet-laboratory, for example: Sterile cell culture, manipulation, cell growth assays; Safe handling of clinical specimens (BSL2+); Nucleic acids extractions and quality control, including cell-free DNA; Genetics techniques (PCR, real-time PCR, droplet-digital PCR, cloning, sequencing). Molecular biology techniques (e.g. protein extraction, western blot); Genomics techniques (e.g. next-generation sequencing library construction); Epigenomics techniques (e.g. ATAC-Seq, ChIP-Seq, bisulfite conversion).
Experience in standard statistical analysis of data (using SPSS, R)
Experience in basic genomic or molecular biology data analysis tools (e.g. IGV visualization, UCSC Human Genome browser, next generation sequencing data alignments)
RESPONSIBILITIES
Plan, perform, and/or directly oversee experimentation as part of a research team under the general guidance of an Investigator.
Conduct relevant background research, including literature searches and reviews, to inform research projects.
Assist in planning and developing research projects within the laboratory under the Principal Investigator's direction.
Collect, organize, analyze, and document data so that results and analysis can be followed by others.
Participate in the planning, development, and implementation of original experimental procedures within the overall scope of the project.
Provide technical and analytical support for research programs across Moffitt divisions and assume administrative or training responsibilities as assigned.
Train new staff and serve as a resource to laboratory team members as directed by the Principal Investigator.
Participate in multidisciplinary projects and maintain regular attendance in appropriate professional associations as directed.
May represent the Principal Investigator in academic affairs, including writing papers and supervising experiments.
CREDENTIALS AND QUALIFICATIONS
Ph.D./MD/DO in relevant field such as Life Science, Genomics, Pathology and at least 2 years' experience as a Research Scientist II or equivalent of that level for years is required.
This typically represents a minimum total of 6 years' performing equivalent work as a post doctorial and/or Research Scientist I, plus Research Scientist II.

Salary Range
$102,024.00 - $168,292.80
Salary ranges posted for this position represent the expected base pay range for the role. Actual compensation may vary based on location and a variety of job-related factors, including experience, skills, education, and internal equity among Team Members in similar positions.
