Overview:
Join the Symposium Wine Bar team! The Kitchen Assistant supports the smooth operation of BOH operations by assisting with food preparation, service tasks, dishwashing, cleaning, organization, and general back-of-house responsibilities. This role helps ensure the kitchen remains clean, organized, properly stocked, and prepared for service.

Duties:
Food Preparation & Service Support
- Assist with weekly food preparation projects as directed by kitchen leadership
- Support food execution during service and events as needed
- Assist with maintaining prep lists and par levels
- Help ensure ingredients and supplies are prepared and available for service
Organization & Inventory
- Restock kitchen items and supplies
- Assist with receiving and putting away deliveries
- Maintain organized storage, refrigeration, and prep areas
- Monitor inventory levels and communicate shortages to kitchen leadership
Cleaning & Sanitation
- Wash dishes, cookware, utensils, and kitchen equipment
- Maintain a clean and organized workspace throughout shifts
- Remove trash, recycling, and cardboard as needed
- Follow all cleaning, sanitation, and food safety procedures
- Assist with deep-cleaning projects as assigned
Brunch Support
- Assist with Sunday brunch preparation and service support
- Help maintain kitchen organization and cleanliness during brunch operations
Skills:
Qualifications & Expectations
- 1 year of culinary or food service experience preferred
- Food Safety Certification is required. Candidates who do not currently hold certification must be willing to obtain it upon hire. Training and certification support will be provided by Symposium.
- Ability to follow direction and work independently when assigned tasks
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Reliable attendance and punctuality
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining cleanliness and attention to detail
- Positive attitude and willingness to jump in where needed
- Ability to communicate effectively with kitchen leadership and team members

Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
- Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds
- Ability to perform repetitive motions, including lifting, reaching, bending, and dishwashing activities
- Ability to work in hot and cold environments, including kitchens, walk-in coolers, and freezers
- Ability to safely operate light kitchen equipment and machinery
- Ability to safely use and work around sharp knives and kitchen tools
Schedule Expectations
This position is currently scheduled for:
- Wednesday: 2:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
- Saturday: 2:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
- Sunday: 9:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
Approximate schedule: 17 hours per week
Weekend availability, including both Saturdays and Sundays, is required.
Some scheduling flexibility may be available. Hours and shifts may occasionally vary based on business needs, events, staffing requirements, and seasonal demand.
