The Town of Amherst Communications Center is seeking motivated, hardworking applicants for the position of full-time emergency services dispatcher. The Amherst Communications Center serves as the dispatch center for the Town of Amherst Police, Fire Rescue, and DPW. Interested applicants should possess strong communication skills, ability to work under pressure, and the ability to work overtime, nights, weekends and holidays.
The Amherst Communications Center offers:
-11 step wage scale ranging from $27.60- $32.34
- Starting pay dependent on experience
- Overnight shift differential
- 4 - 10 hr. shifts with 3 days off
- 8 week shift rotations

Responsibilities:
- Receive emergency calls and gather necessary information
- Remain calm and composed while speaking with callers in distress
- Determine the nature of the emergency and dispatch appropriate emergency personnel
- Use computer-aided dispatch systems to enter and update information
- Transcribe and relay messages between emergency personnel and other agencies
- Monitor multiple phone lines and radio frequencies simultaneously
- Maintain accurate records of all calls and actions taken
Skills:
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Strong conflict management and negotiation skills
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and make quick decisions
- Proficient in data entry and using phone systems
- Ability to multitask and prioritize effectively
