About the Position
The VDC Design Manager/Senior Design Manager plays a critical role in the successful delivery of construction projects by leading the virtual design and coordination process for assigned projects. This position is responsible for managing project coordination, constructability reviews, installation planning, and BIM deliverables while ensuring compliance with project requirements, applicable codes, and Power Design best practices.
The VDC Design Manager/Senior Design Manager works closely with operations teams, customers, consultants, engineers, and trade partners to develop innovative, cost-effective, and constructible solutions that support successful project execution. This role serves as a technical leader throughout preconstruction and design coordination activities and may provide guidance and support to other VDC team members.
Position Details/Responsibilities
Lead the VDC coordination process for assigned projects from preconstruction through design completion.
Manage project coordination schedules, deliverables, and VDC timelines to support project milestones and operational needs.
Lead coordination meetings and clash detection efforts while facilitating resolution of design and constructability conflicts.
Review project plans, specifications, BIM Execution Plans, contracts, and jurisdictional requirements to ensure code-compliant and cost-effective installations.
Develop, review, and maintain BIM models, coordination drawings, fabrication drawings, shop drawings, and installation documentation.
Collaborate with operations, engineering, and field teams to support constructability reviews, installation planning, prefabrication strategies, and project execution.
Evaluate design alternatives and provide value engineering recommendations that improve project outcomes while maintaining quality and compliance standards.
Maintain project documentation, including RFIs, ASIs, addenda, and other design-related updates.
Monitor project budgets, schedules, and production goals while ensuring high-quality deliverables.
Provide technical guidance and support to VDC team members and project stakeholders.
Serve as a professional representative of Power Design during project meetings and coordination activities.
Contribute to the continuous improvement of VDC processes, standards, best practices, and technologies.

Here’s What We’re Looking For
Associate's degree, bachelor's degree, industry certification, registered apprenticeship completion, or equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
5+ years of experience in construction, VDC, BIM modeling, detailing, coordination, design, or installation within Electrical, Mechanical, or Plumbing systems.
Strong understanding of applicable codes, industry standards, installation methods, and construction best practices.
Proficiency with Revit and working knowledge of AutoCAD, Navisworks, Bluebeam, and other BIM technologies.
Ability to lead project coordination efforts, facilitate conflict resolution, and drive project outcomes.
Ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications, submittals, contracts, and project documentation.
Strong understanding of constructability, coordination workflows, clash detection, and installation planning.
Strong communication, organization, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to effectively collaborate with internal teams, customers, consultants, and trade partners.
Commitment to delivering high-quality work with strong attention to detail.
Experience supporting prefabrication, fabrication, field layout, value engineering, or installation planning is a plus.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, competing priorities, and project deadlines.
