Job Summary
The Emissions Technician / General Service Technician plays a pivotal role in supporting the daily operations of the service department at Performance Wise. This position encompasses a spectrum of duties, including emissions testing, shop upkeep, customer service and potentially some vehicle maintenance. The incumbent is entrusted with upholding stringent standards of safety, professionalism, and efficiency in all aspects of their work.
Key Responsibilities:
Emissions Testing:
● Conduct emissions testing on diesel vehicles in strict adherence to state regulations.
● Maintain certification as a state emissions tester and remain informed about any alterations or updates to testing procedures.
Shop Maintenance:
● Empty oil caddies and responsibly dispose of used oil in alignment with environmental regulations.
● Mix coolant as required and maintain adequate stock levels for vehicle servicing.
● Top off washer fluid jugs to ensure they are fully stocked for customer vehicles.
● Empty trash receptacles throughout the shop and dispose of waste appropriately.
● Maintain cleanliness and organization in the shop and common areas, including buff bays, and perform regular cleaning of bathrooms and common areas as necessary.
● Monitor inventory of bulk fluids and promptly notify service advisors when supplies need replenishing.
Vehicle Maintenance Assistance (Potentially):
● The opportunity to collaborate with senior technicians to execute general maintenance tasks on customer vehicles, encompassing oil changes, tire rotations, filter replacements, and fluid changes.
● The opportunity to perform safety inspections on all vehicles assigned to you.
Customer Interaction:
● Accurately and efficiently collect payment for emissions tests, delivering exceptional customer service.
● Address basic inquiries from customers regarding diesel trucks, offering maintenance tips and vehicle specifications courteously.
Safety Compliance:
● Adhere rigorously to all safety protocols and guidelines to mitigate the risk of accidents and injuries in the workplace.
● Wear designated personal protective equipment (PPE) and strictly adhere to safety procedures at all times.
Note: The responsibilities listed above are not all-encompassing and may evolve based on business needs, operational requirements and candidate potential. Additional tasks may be assigned by the Shop Foreman or other members of management to support the overall objectives of the service department.
Hours of Work:
The expected work hours for the position of Emissions Technician / General Service Technician at Performance Wise are from 7:45 AM to 4:15 PM, Monday through Friday. Employees are entitled to a 30-minute unpaid lunch break, which is not included in the total hours worked per day.
Timekeeping:
This position is classified as non-exempt and requires employees to accurately record their work hours by clocking in and out using the Tekmetric timekeeping system. It is essential to adhere to the designated work schedule and accurately record all hours worked, including any overtime hours, as per company policy and legal requirements.
Qualifications:
● High school diploma or equivalent.
● Previous experience in automotive maintenance or repair preferred but not required.
● Certification as a state emissions tester or willingness to obtain certification.
● Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
● Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
● Excellent communication and customer service skills.
Working Conditions:
● This position entails standing, bending, lifting, and working in various weather conditions.
● Exposure to loud noises, chemicals, and other hazards typical of an automotive repair shop environment is anticipated.
Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour
