Town of East Lyme Restroom Custodian Job Description
Department: Parks and Recreation FLSA: Hourly (Seasonal position June – August)
Reports to: Recreation Supervisor Supervises: N/A
SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITY: Provides custodial services to public restroom facilities at park or beach facilities. Essential Functions: Performs general, routine custodial duties, to include dusting, mopping, cleaning, disinfecting, and restocking paper, and soap supplies. Maintains inventory and communicates needed supplies and equipment to appropriate department staff. Empties trash receptacles and bags trash for proper disposal. Locks or unlocks facilities as directed. Identifies, addresses and/or reports safety or maintenance issues and concerns to appropriate staff. Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices. Performs cleaning functions specific to the assigned facilities and/or based on seasonal requirements. May assist or perform minor maintenance, such as replacing light bulbs, minor repairs, or other similar activities. Drives a Town vehicle to various park sites. Other Functions: Performs related duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES: One year or less of experience in custodial service. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with individuals and groups, both professional and non-professional, co-workers, management personnel, the public and others. Strong attention to detail and commitment to providing quality work. Reliable attendance. Valid Driver's License. Mental and Physical Requirements: The physical demands and work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Must be able to perform continuous bending, twisting stooping, reaching, and lifting of moderate to heavy weight material up to 50 lbs. Must be able to work standing for extended periods, up to 4 hours per day. While performing the duties of this job, the employee works indoors and out of doors. Is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. Able to perform in a work environment that is quiet to noisy. Vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Ability to maintain his/her composure with the public and co-workers in everyday, stressful, or demanding situations.
