Good afternoon. Plano Sheet Metal is hiring a Shop Support Technician to help keep our growing fabrication shop organized, stocked, clean, and productive.
This is a hands-on role involving material handling, forklift operation, shipping and receiving, tool organization, scrap management, and daily support for our fabrication team.

Shop Support Tech - Position Responsibilities
- Receive, unload, organize, and stage incoming materials / metals
- Operate a forklift safely around active shop personnel and equipment
- Move and handle sheet metal, pipe, beams and finished products
- Prepare materials and work areas for upcoming fabrication jobs
- Move completed products to customer pickup or shipping areas
- Help customers and drivers load and unload materials
- Return tools, carts, clamps, and equipment to designated locations
- Reset and clean fabrication areas between jobs
- Organize scrap and coordinate scrap pickups
- Restock shop, workstation, and office supplies
- Keep aisles, floors, racks, loading areas, and workstations clean and safe
- Assist fabricators with loading large or awkward materials
- Report damaged materials, low supplies, misplaced tools, and safety concerns
Qualifications Needed
- Experience in a fabrication shop, warehouse, steel yard, manufacturing facility, construction company, or similar environment
- Forklift experience, including moving long, heavy, or awkward materials
- Comfortable working around sharp and heavy metal products
- Able to lift, carry, push, and position materials throughout the day
- Familiarity with industrial tools, pallets, carts, straps, chains, and loading procedures
- Strong organization, communication, and safety awareness
- Able to work independently without constant supervision
- Reliable transportation and dependable attendance
Ideal Candidate
You take ownership of the shop floor and recognize what needs attention before it slows down production. You keep materials staged, tools organized, supplies stocked, scrap removed, and completed work moving.
This is a production-support role that allows our fabricators to stay focused on skilled fabrication work.
Schedule and Compensation
- Approximately 30–40 hours per week
- Daytime shop schedule
- Compensation based on experience and forklift ability
- Located in Plano, Texas
The position may eventually include training in custom fabrication and the use of brakes, welders, shears, rollers, and other shop equipment.
