NDDOT Starting Salary: $6,506 / month
This position will travel throughout Western North Dakota and be based out of the Bismarck, Minot, Williston, or Dickinson District office. Travel and overnight stays for the week will be required of the position.

You will be the supportive force and an integral team member, keeping safety and health on the fore front of our district employees. The ideal person for this position will be a people person who has the ability to work independently and as part of a team, has excellent communication skills and attention to detail. We are looking for an officer who can guide and support NDDOT by managing all aspects of safety and health for our Western North Dakota districts. Primary duties associated with this position are as follows:

Rapidly respond to workplace injuries and incidents.

Analyze/investigate and make recommendations to prevent reoccurrence of similar events.

Ensure proper reports are completed in a timely manner and appropriate parties are notified.

Monitor employee work activities to ensure safe work practices in accordance with safety rules and regulations.

Perform inspections of equipment, buildings, yards, and road right of way.

Operate technical equipment to determine if work sites and conditions are safe for employees.

Utilize testing equipment detectors to monitor and ensure exposure limits are not exceeded.

Evaluate personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensure proper use and maintenance.

Assist in development and conduct and review safety and health-related training programs.

Review reports submitted on vehicle incidents, crashes, employee personal injuries and worker's comp claims.

Responsible for safety related communications, respond to questions.

Perform ergonomic work task and station assessments, incident investigations and safety inspections.

Assist with pre-employment physicals and drug testing as well as return to work recommendations.

Be a subject matter expert and provide training for workzone traffic control.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree and one year of professional work experience as an occupational safety professional, OR
-
Five years of professional work experience as a safety professional performing duties closely related to those listed, OR
-
Five years of experience in the highway transportation field.

ND Class D driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications

Public speaking experience

Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Extensive Highway maintenance and/or construction experience
Employment of the selected candidate will be contingent on satisfactorily completing the interview process and the required drug test, job function screening, reference check and driving records check.
