If you possess the skills to inspire and lead with a servant-heart and an excellent cook, who can rally teams of staff and volunteers to provide dignity and respect to those experiencing homelessness through a meal, then the San Diego Rescue Mission invites you to join our team as a Cook.
As a Cook, you will be an integral part of our Kitchen Team, playing a pivotal role in caring for our students and guests. Your primary responsibilities will include leading a team of staff and volunteers, planning, preparing and cooking meals, opening and closing the kitchen and ensuring compliance with food handling standards.
Key Responsibilities
Plan, prepare, and cook meals for our community.
Open and close the kitchen facility, ensuring cleanliness and organization.
Manage and train kitchen staff and volunteers, fostering a positive and efficient work environment.
Coordinate with suppliers and manage inventory effectively.
Ensure compliance with food handling regulations and health and safety standards.
Engage with the community and participate in our mission to serve the homeless.
Requirements
Minimum of 3 years of professional cooking experience.
Special License/Certification: Current Food Handler’s card, C.A. Driver’s license
Proven ability to manage kitchen operations, staff, and volunteers.
A strong passion for serving others and making a difference in the community.
Excellent organizational and leadership skills.
Proficiency in various cooking techniques and cuisines.
Good understanding of food hygiene and safety regulations.
