Senior Project Manager - Underground Utilities
Position Overview:
The Senior Project Manager is a senior leader responsible for overseeing and managing multiple projects or a defined business unit within the utilities division. This role ensures alignment with company strategy, drives financial performance, and builds strong relationships with key clients and stakeholders.
Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
- Align all projects with company goals, growth strategy, and operational priorities
- Provide oversight across multiple projects to ensure consistency, efficiency, and performance
- Monitor project schedules, budgets, risks, change orders and major procurement decisions
- Identify issues and proactively resolve issues that could impact project delivery, qualify or safety
- Partner with executive leadership to drive long-term planning
Financial Ownership
- Own and manage P&L across assigned projects or division
- Oversee budgets, forecasts, and cost controls to ensure profitability
- Identify financial risks and implement corrective actions proactively
Operational Oversight
- Lead Project Managers and to ensure successful project execution
- Serve as primary point of contact for executive leadership, clients, and key partners
- Build and maintain strong client relationships to ensure satisfaction and repeat business
- Drive accountability for profit and loss outcomes at the project level
Team Leadership & Development
- Lead, coach, and develop Project Managers and emerging leaders
- Support hiring and performance management
- Foster a culture of accountability, ownership, and continuous improvement
Business Development
- Identify and pursue new opportunities within the utilities market
- Support preconstruction, estimating, and proposal efforts
- Participate in contract negotiations and strategic partnerships
Qualifications
- Experience in underground wet utilities, civil construction, or infrastructure projects
- Proven leadership experience managing multiple projects or business units
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, or related field preferred but not required
- Strong financial acumen with P&L ownership experience
- Proficiency in project management and construction software (Procore, Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, etc.)
- Deep understanding of underground utilities, including wet utilities, earthwork, and infrastructure development
- Excellent leadership, communication, and negotiation skills
