Customer Service AssociatePosition Summary
Cream of the Cakes is a family-owned bakery specializing in custom cakes, cupcakes, cookies, and specialty desserts. We are looking for a friendly, dependable, and customer-focused team member to be the face of our bakery. This role is responsible for creating an outstanding customer experience while assisting guests with purchases, custom cake orders, and ensuring our bakery remains welcoming, organized, and inviting.

Primary ResponsibilitiesCustomer Service
- Greet every customer with a warm, friendly attitude.
- Create a welcoming and positive experience for every guest.
- Answer customer questions about bakery products, flavors, pricing, and ordering options.
- Provide recommendations based on customer needs and special occasions.
- Resolve customer concerns professionally and respectfully.
- Properly use phone, email, texting, social media, etc. assisting customers.
Order Management
- Accurately take custom cake and dessert orders in person and over the phone.
- Enter customer orders into the bakery’s ordering system.
- Verify spelling, dates, pickup times, decorations, colors, and special requests.
- Confirm order details with customers to ensure accuracy.
- Process payments and provide receipts.
Retail Sales
- Assist customers with selecting cakes, cupcakes, cookies, pastries, and other bakery items.
- Upsell complementary products when appropriate.
- Maintain attractive product displays.
- Restock retail cases and shelves throughout the day.
Cash Handling
- Operate the point-of-sale (POS) system.
- Process cash, credit card, and gift card transactions accurately.
- Follow established procedures to handle customer transactions and POS.
Bakery Appearance
- Keep the front counter clean, organized, and well stocked.
- Package bakery items carefully and attractively.
- Maintain cleanliness of customer seating areas and entryway.
- Monitor inventory of boxes, bags, ribbons, candles, utensils, and other customer supplies.
Team Support
- Assist decorators and bakers with non-production tasks as needed.
- Help package and prepare orders for pickup.
- Communicate special requests and customer updates to the production team.
- Support coworkers during busy holidays and weekends.
- Clean-up, dish washing, floor cleaning, and overall cleaning of cases and fixtures
Qualifications
- Friendly, positive attitude with excellent customer service skills.

- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Dependable and punctual.
- Comfortable learning bakery products and custom ordering procedures.
- Basic computer and cash register skills.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to stand for extended periods.
Previous customer service, retail, restaurant, coffee shop, or bakery experience is preferred but not required. We are happy to train the right person with a great attitude.
