Duties
- Greet customers warmly and assist them in locating products such as lumber, hardware, tools, and building supplies.
- Operate the point-of-sale (POS) system accurately for retail sales transactions, including cash register operations and cash handling.
- Conduct product demos and provide knowledgeable recommendations to upsell items that meet customer needs.
- Stock shelves efficiently, ensuring merchandise is well-organized, properly labeled, and replenished regularly.
- Assist with merchandising displays to highlight featured products and promote sales opportunities.
- Handle retail store product knowledge inquiries confidently, offering detailed information on materials, specifications, and usage.
- Maintain excellent phone etiquette when assisting customers over the phone or scheduling pickups.
Skills
- Proven experience with POS systems, cash register operations, and retail sales transactions.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to clearly explain product features and answer customer questions.
- Supervising experience is a plus; capable of guiding team members or assisting in training new staff.
- Bilingual abilities are highly valued to serve diverse customer needs effectively.
- Knowledge of retail math for accurate cash drawer handling and basic math skills for measuring or estimating quantities.
- Experience in merchandising, stocking, and product demos within a retail environment such as hardware stores or grocery stores.
- Excellent phone etiquette combined with customer service skills that foster positive shopping experiences.
