American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Cardiac Step-Down (PCU) travel assignment in Asheville, NC, requiring stepdown or progressive care experience and telemetry skills.

Located on the 5th floor of the Owen Heart Center (Heart Tower), a 40-bed cardiac step-down unit
-
Patient population includes CHF, MI, chest pain, arrhythmia, pulmonary hypertension, valvular disease, endocarditis, DKA, and post-cardiac cath/stent/pacer/ICD/ablation patients

Patient ratios are 1:4, with stretch staffing at 1:5
-
Day shift staffing includes 1 charge nurse, 10 bedside nurses, 4 PCTs, and 1 unit secretary; night shift includes 1 charge nurse, 10 bedside nurses, and 3 PCTs

Day shift hours: 6:45 AM – 7:15 PM

EMR: Cerner
-
Equipment used includes Zoll monitors, Baxter pumps, lift equipment, and bladder scanners
-
Bedside cardioversion is among the procedures performed on the unit
-
Floating may be required to med/surg units, other stepdown units, the COVID unit, and ER holding
-
Every other weekend required

13-week contract

Active RN license — NC or Compact license required
-
Required certifications: BLS and ACLS (AHA or ARC accepted; must not expire within the first 30 days of the assignment start)

NIH Stroke Scale certification required for PCU RNs
-
Minimum 2 years of recent RN experience in cardiac stepdown or progressive care
-
Stepdown or progressive care experience required
-
Telemetry monitoring experience required
-
Experience with titratable or cardiac IV drips required (e.g., nitroglycerin, Cardizem, amiodarone, dopamine, dobutamine, insulin drip, heparin, bumetanide/Lasix)

US SSN and DOB required for consideration

One professional reference required
-
No gaps in work history of 90 days or more within the past 12 months

Experience with prostacyclins (Flolan, Veletri, Remodulin) is preferred

Relief charge experience is preferred

Ideal candidates are flexible, positive, team-oriented, and compassionate

Scrub colors: all white, all navy blue, or white top with navy blue pants
-
Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility — local candidates are not eligible
