Springhill Medical Group is seeking an experienced Check-Out / Referral & Authorization Coordinator to join our growing team. We are looking for a motivated, detail-oriented professional who thrives in a fast-paced medical office and has a strong background in insurance referrals and prior authorizations.
The ideal candidate has recent experience working with referrals and authorizations, is proficient in EPIC, understands commercial insurance plans, and is committed to providing exceptional patient care and customer service.
Responsibilities
- Process patient check-out accurately and efficiently.
- Coordinate and obtain referrals and prior authorizations for diagnostic testing, procedures, specialty visits, and medications as needed in a timely fashion.
- Verify insurance eligibility, benefits, and authorization requirements.
- Demonstrate a thorough understanding of commercial insurance plans, including HMO, PPO, EPO, POS, Medicare, and Medicaid.
- Communicate effectively with insurance companies, providers, specialists, and patients regarding referral and authorization status.
- Schedule follow-up appointments and coordinate patient care.
- Document all referral and authorization activity accurately in EPIC.
- Maintain confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Answer patient questions professionally and provide excellent customer service.
- Work collaboratively with physicians, clinical staff, and front office personnel to ensure efficient patient flow.
- Perform other administrative duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 2–3 years of recent, continuous experience in medical referrals and prior authorizations.
- EPIC Electronic Medical Record (EMR) experience is required.
- Strong knowledge of commercial insurance plans and referral/authorization processes.
- Working knowledge of medical terminology.
- Excellent organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Outstanding customer service skills.
- Ability to work independently while also contributing as a collaborative team member.
- Proficient with computers and standard medical office software.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a multi-provider, multi-speciality outpatient medical practice.
- Familiarity with insurance eligibility verification and benefits coordination.
- Experience working with multiple specialty referrals and authorizations.
