Structural Steel Foreman
$38–$40/hour + $100/day Per Diem
Advanced Steel Welding & Mechanical, LLC is immediately hiring an experienced Structural Steel Foreman for the St. Carlo Acutis Middle School project in Grand Forks, North Dakota, with McGough serving as the General Contractor.
We are looking for a strong field leader with significant structural steel erection experience who can plan daily work, direct a crew, coordinate erection activities, and work alongside the crew when needed.
This is a working foreman position. The successful candidate must be comfortable leading by example and assisting with rigging, connecting, bolt-up, welding, equipment operation, and other erection activities within their qualifications.
Pay & Schedule
- $38.00–$40.00 per hour, based on experience and qualifications
- $100/day per diem for eligible employees
- Full-time
- Overtime may be available or required based on project needs
- Start needed the week of August 17, 2026
- Steel delivery begins August 21
- Structural steel erection begins August 24
Responsibilities
The Structural Steel Foreman will be responsible for:
- Leading daily structural steel erection activities
- Planning manpower and daily work assignments
- Coordinating steel erection sequencing
- Reviewing erection and structural drawings
- Directing rigging, connecting, bolt-up, welding, and miscellaneous steel installation
- Coordinating crane picks and material staging
- Communicating with the General Contractor and other trades
- Ensuring work is performed according to project requirements
- Monitoring crew productivity and quality
- Verifying proper use of fall protection
- Conducting or participating in daily safety planning and hazard recognition
- Maintaining safe work practices around cranes, lifts, suspended loads, and equipment
- Identifying unsafe conditions and stopping work when necessary
- Assisting with structural steel erection activities in the field as needed
- Helping maintain tools, equipment, materials, and organized work areas
Required Experience
Qualified candidates should have substantial experience in structural steel erection, including:
- Structural steel erection and connecting
- Rigging structural steel
- Crane signaling and coordination
- Bolt-up and field connections
- Reading structural and erection drawings
- Erection sequencing
- Working at heights
- Fall protection
- Boom lift / aerial lift work
- Telehandler / forklift operation
- Crew leadership
Previous structural steel foreman or lead ironworker experience is required.
Certifications
McGough requires appropriate certification for employees performing certain work on the project.
Depending on duties performed, the foreman must be able to provide applicable current certification or qualification for:
- Rigging
- Forklift / Telehandler operation
- Welding
Candidates holding multiple current certifications will receive priority consideration.
Additional valuable certifications include:
- OSHA 30
- OSHA 10
- Signal Person
- Boom Lift / Aerial Lift
- Fall Protection
- First Aid / CPR
Welding Experience
Structural and field welding experience is strongly preferred.
Candidates who are currently certified to weld should identify:
- Welding process(es)
- Welding position(s)
- Current certification status
A foreman who can safely perform multiple functions within the erection crew is strongly preferred.

Qualifications
Ideal candidates will have:
- Several years of structural steel erection experience
- Previous structural steel foreman or lead experience
- Strong rigging knowledge
- Ability to read structural drawings
- Experience coordinating crane operations
- Experience with telehandlers and aerial lifts
- Strong knowledge of structural steel erection safety
- Reliable attendance and communication
- Ability to work safely at heights
- Ability to work effectively with employees, subcontractors, and General Contractor representatives
