Buck’s Rock Camp is a freedom-of-choice creative and performing arts camp for teenagers ages 11 to 17. Every summer at Buck’s Rock is completely different. The campers who join us each year make the summer their own adventure, and the camp constantly evolves and changes to meet the needs of that year’s campers. So to answer the question “What is Buck’s Rock?” is simple: it is a safe space where young people can grow into whatever they want and need to be.
Job Summary
Total Dates of Employment: starts ASAP - August 24, 2026
Salary range: $3,000-$4,400 seasonally
Lodging: Dorm-style housing, a short walk from all other camp amenities
Reports to: Head Lifeguard
Lifeguards play a critical role in ensuring the safety of campers and staff during aquatic activities. This position requires strong swimming skills, attentiveness, and the ability to act swiftly in emergency situations. Lifeguards will work under the supervision of the Head Lifeguard to maintain a safe and enjoyable environment at all camp aquatic facilities.
A Lifeguard must:
- Supervise the camp swimming pool
- Enforce all safety rules and guidelines to prevent accidents and ensure a safe environment.
- Be prepared to respond immediately to any emergency situations, performing water rescues, administering first aid, or CPR as required.
- Maintain constant visual attention on swimmers and aquatic participants, never leaving your post unattended.
- Assist with setting up and maintaining aquatic areas, ensuring equipment is in good working condition and ready for use.
- Perform regular safety checks of the pool area, including water conditions, equipment, and surroundings.
- Participate in safety drills and training exercises as directed by the Head Lifeguard or DoO
- Keep accurate records of incidents, rescues, and any maintenance issues.
- Communicate effectively with campers, staff, and the aquatics team to ensure smooth operations and safety protocols are followed.
- Assist with cleaning and maintaining the aquatic areas to ensure they remain safe and sanitary.
- Recognize that you are an integral part of a larger community, and with that comes a shared responsibility to contribute and support one another.
Qualifications:
- Ability to swim confidently in various water conditions and demonstrate strong swimming skills
- A demonstrated ability to perform water rescues.
- Ability to remain alert and focused for extended periods of time.
- Good physical condition, with the ability to lift and carry out rescue techniques.
- Ability to work as part of a team and take direction from the Head Lifeguard and Aquatics Director.
- Friendly, approachable demeanor with a commitment to camper safety.
- Must be able to navigate rough terrain; reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions of the position.
- Knowledge of basic pool maintenance and cleaning procedures is preferred
- Excellent guest service skills with a positive attitude and clear communication ability
- Proven lifeguard experience or relevant training with current certification in lifeguarding, CPR, and first aid a plus
