Small law firm seeking a dependable, organized Legal Assistant to support attorneys and help manage the firm’s day-to-day operations.
This position combines traditional legal assistant responsibilities with general office-management duties. The ideal candidate will be professional, detail-oriented, comfortable managing multiple deadlines, and able to work independently in a small-office environment.
Responsibilities
- Prepare, edit, proofread, and format legal documents, correspondence, pleadings, and forms
- Maintain client files and organize electronic and paper records
- Manage attorney calendars, court deadlines, appointments, and reminders
- Communicate professionally with clients, courts, and other professional offices
- Assist with opening new matters, gathering client information, and maintaining case records
- File documents electronically with courts and governmental agencies
- Process incoming and outgoing mail, email, and document deliveries
- Answer phones, schedule appointments, and assist with general client inquiries
- Track outstanding tasks and follow up with attorneys, clients, and third parties as needed
- Maintain office supplies, equipment, vendors, and basic office procedures
- Assist with billing, invoicing, payment processing, and other administrative functions
- Help develop and maintain efficient office systems, checklists, and workflows
- Perform other legal and administrative duties as needed
Qualifications
- Prior experience as a legal assistant, legal secretary, paralegal, or law-office administrator preferred but not required
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage deadlines and prioritize multiple assignments
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Outlook, Adobe Acrobat, and general office technology
- Professional and courteous when communicating with clients
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Dependable, self-motivated, and comfortable working with limited supervision
- Willingness to take ownership of both legal-support and general office responsibilities
Experience with probate, estate planning, litigation, Social Security disability, or oil and gas matters is helpful but not required.
