Position Summary
The ReStore Associate is a hands-on position that helps keep our ReStore running safely, efficiently, and successfully.
This position works throughout the store, warehouse, donation area, and loading areas and may also participate in donation pickups throughout the community.
Typical responsibilities include assisting customers and donors, receiving and processing donations, merchandising and pricing items, cashiering, loading and unloading furniture and building materials, recycling, maintaining a clean and organized store, and helping with donation pickups.
This is a great position for someone who enjoys staying active, working with people, and having variety in their workday.
What You'll Do
- Provide friendly and professional customer and donor service.
- Help customers locate merchandise and answer questions.
- Assist customers with loading purchases.
- Receive and evaluate donations according to ReStore donation guidelines.
- Help donors safely unload accepted items.
- Clean, sort, price, test, and prepare donated merchandise for resale.
- Stock and organize merchandise throughout the sales floor.
- Maintain clean, safe, and attractive displays.
- Operate the cash register and point-of-sale system when assigned.
- Load and unload furniture, appliances, building materials, and other merchandise.
- Safely use hand trucks, carts, dollies, pallet jacks, and other equipment after training.
- Assist with recycling and properly sorting materials.
- Keep the sales floor, warehouse, donation area, loading areas, and outdoor areas clean and organized.
- Work cooperatively with ReStore employees and volunteers.
- Help with opening and closing responsibilities as assigned.
- Follow all Benton Habitat and ReStore safety policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties and special projects as assigned by the ReStore Manager.
Donation Pickups
ReStore Associates may participate in scheduled donation pickups at homes, businesses, construction sites, and other locations.
Pickup responsibilities may include:
- Providing professional and courteous service to donors.
- Evaluating donations according to current ReStore guidelines.
- Moving and loading furniture, appliances, building materials, and other donated items.
- Using proper lifting techniques and moving equipment.
- Protecting donor property and donated merchandise from avoidable damage.
- Safely securing donated merchandise for transportation.
- Unloading and processing donations when returning to the ReStore.
Safety comes first. Employees are not expected to remove items when the weight, location, accessibility, condition, available staffing, or other circumstances make the pickup unsafe.
Driving
ReStore Associates may occasionally be assigned to drive a Benton Habitat vehicle for donation pickups or other organizational business.
Employees assigned to drive must:
- Have a valid driver's license.
- Meet Benton Habitat's insurance requirements for authorized drivers.
- Maintain an acceptable driving record.
- Be comfortable safely operating the type and size of vehicle assigned.
- Follow all traffic laws and organizational vehicle policies.
- Complete required vehicle safety inspections.
- Properly secure merchandise before transportation.
Employees who are not authorized to drive may still participate in pickups as a helper.

Preferred Experience
Previous experience is helpful but not required. Experience in any of the following is a plus:
- Retail or customer service
- Warehouse work
- Furniture or appliance moving
- Delivery or donation pickup
- Construction or home improvement
- Building materials, tools, or hardware
- Cash handling or point-of-sale systems
- Forklift or material-handling equipment
We are willing to train the right person.
Physical Requirements
This is an active and physical position.
Employees must be able to regularly stand and walk for extended periods and frequently bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, push, and pull.
The position requires the ability to safely lift and move up to 50 pounds independently and move heavier or bulky items with team assistance or appropriate equipment.
Employees may regularly handle furniture, appliances, building materials, tools, and other large or awkward merchandise.
Donation pickups may require entering and exiting vehicles and navigating driveways, stairs, homes, businesses, loading areas, and other environments.

Work Environment
This position works in a retail store and warehouse environment and may also work outdoors and at off-site donation pickup locations.
Employees may encounter changing temperatures, weather conditions, dust, noise, uneven surfaces, heavy merchandise, and moving equipment.
The Benton Habitat ReStore is generally open Tuesday through Saturday, 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Employees may be scheduled before opening or after closing as needed.
