The Lathe Okuma Machinist is responsible for the setup, operation of Okuma CNC lathes to manufacture components in stainless steel, carbon steel and acrylic materials. The ideal candidate will interpret blueprints, program machines, and ensure products meet strict quality standards. This role demands strong technical knowledge, attention to detail, and a commitment to workplace safety.
Responsibilities
· Interprets engineering drawings and blueprints.
· Computes dimensions and tolerances, measure and layout work pieces.
· Manages tooling life, make adjustments, change offsets, and modify programs as needed.
· Programs, sets up, and operates Okuma CNC lathes to produce precision parts according to specifications.
· Adjusts machine settings, speeds, and feeds to optimize machining performance.
· Adheres to industry safety standards.
· Loads raw materials and monitor machining processes to ensure accuracy and efficiency.
·Inspects finished parts using precision measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges.
·Ensures all products meet required tolerances and quality standards.
· Inspects product while practicing quality assurance procedures.
· Performs in-process inspection as required to ensure 100% quality product.
· Retrieves appropriate tools from tool crib to complete job.
· Meets schedules and maintain quality standards.
· Understands and follows machining policies, instructions, work rules and safety guidelines.
· Maintains safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.
· Changes tools and makes offset adjustments.
· Edits CNC Lathe Okuma programs as required.
· Understands and makes adjustments to hold geometric tolerances and geometric dimensions.
· Loads/unloads tools.
Must-Haves Requirements:
1) Experience in performing CNC Okuma lathe work
2) GD&T experience
3) Minimum 5 years core CNC lathe machining experience
4) Being able to perform own machine set up
Other Requirements:
· Reading, writing and math ability.
· Maintains safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.
· General programming skills.
· Basic shop math (addition, subtraction, trigonometry).
· Ability to perform own set-ups helpful.
· Able to read and understand blueprints.
· Stable work history.
· Perform Basic Edits.
· Strong interpersonal skills.
· Valid driver’s license
