American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry (Respiratory) night shift position in Tuscaloosa, AL, requiring an active AL or compact RN license and at least 2 years of nursing experience.

Hospital-based 42-bed Medical Respiratory Unit (7 North) specializing in acute and chronic respiratory conditions

Primary patient population includes respiratory diagnoses such as pneumonia, COPD, and shortness of breath, with additional medical patients presenting with GI issues, diabetes, and occasional stroke or surgical cases

Unit also houses an 8-bed respiratory step-down unit with a 1:4 nursing ratio

Standard nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:6

EMR system is Meditech (experience preferred but not required)

Night shift schedule: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
-
Every other weekend required

Holiday coverage required as assigned

Floating to other units and hospitals required

13-week contract

Active AL state or compact RN license required — no pending or temporary licenses accepted, and no hits on license allowed (past or current)

Associate degree in nursing (ADN) or higher required

Minimum 2 years of RN experience required; candidates with 18 months may be considered if working under the highest level of professional license

At least 1 year of recent experience in Med/Surg Telemetry or respiratory specialty required

BLS certification required (AHA or Red Cross accepted)

NURSYS license verification required for consideration

Valid driver's license required for consideration

Two professional references from within the last year required for consideration

Patients benefit from daily interdisciplinary team rounds

Virtual orientation provided, including competency-based modules — no HealthStream modules required prior to start

Timekeeping is managed through Centricity

Scrub color requirement: solid navy

Local candidates are accepted with no radius restrictions

No on-site testing required for this Med/Surg Tele role (on-site testing applies only to ICU and ED RNs)
