American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position at a Level 1 Trauma, academic medical center in Winston-Salem, NC, covering both a general medicine unit and a locked behavioral health unit.

Work in a 885-bed Level 1 Trauma academic medical center and teaching hospital

Assigned to a dual-unit floor: Unit A (General Medicine) and Unit B (locked Behavioral Health)
-
Unit A patient population includes diabetes, GI, respiratory, renal, wounds/dressing changes, and observation patients with a goal LOS under 24 hours
-
Unit B patient population includes all BH diagnoses, dementia/memory care, developmental delays, and SI patients
-
Patient ratios: Unit A — RN 1:6; Unit B — RN 1:5
-
12-hour day shifts, 0700–1900, 36 hours per week
-
Every other weekend rotation required
-
Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays
-
No on-call or call-back requirements

Floating may be required to: 8 Reynolds, 8 North, ACE, 9 Ardmore, 10 Ardmore, 8 North-B, and 8 Ardmore

EMR: Epic (experience preferred)

IV pump: Alaris; medication dispensing: Omnicell

Centralized telemetry monitoring
-
Active NC RN license or compact RN license currently in hand

Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
-
NIHSS certification required; CPI required for Unit B (can be obtained on site)

Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
-
At least 12 months of core Med/Surg Tele experience, with most recent experience within the past year
-
Proficiency with telemetry strip interpretation required
-
Experience with chest tubes, tracheostomies, PIV starts, drains and tubes, and PCA pumps required
-
Experience managing IV drips including Amiodarone, Fentanyl PCA, Ketamine PCA, Dilaudid PCA, and Heparin required
-
Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills required

Ability to tolerate moderate to high stress levels required

Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible

Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration

Minimum of 1 professional reference dated within the past year, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN, required for consideration

Provide direct and indirect patient care across both a general medicine and a locked behavioral health unit
-
Support staff includes CNAs, charge nurse, HUC/receptionist, phlebotomy, Rapid Response Team, RT (24/7), hospitalist (24/7), intensivist (24/7), and security on Unit B (24/7)
-
Mental Health Technicians (MHTs) are present on Unit B 24/7
-
Orientation includes New Employee Orientation (NEO) plus 2 days of departmental orientation

A clinical interview is required for this position
