Wage Range: $50,000-$60,000 annually

Job Summary:
Responsible for the coordination and implementation of emergency preparedness, and security standards to facilitate a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors. Coordinate education and exercises within the organization to ensure an organized response during a disaster, and security events.
Job Responsibilities:
- Demonstrates sound judgment, calm leadership, and prompt action during emergency situations.
- Manages all programs and directs the security staff towards the safe efficient operation of all activities in accordance with the hospital mission statements.
- Develops, implements, administers, and modifies programs to maintain the safety and security of staff, patients and visitors through the efficient use of time, resources, and manpower.
- Communicates pertinent information regarding safety and security to Senior Management as appropriate.
- Coordinates security staff scheduling and ensures proper staffing levels at all times.
- Demonstrates accurate knowledge of relevant laws, codes, standards and regulations affecting decisions and interpretations for the safety of the facility.
- Interacts with other levels of management to insure proper planning and coordination regarding changes in security or emergency preparedness demands.
- Interacts with local law enforcement to maintain a viable working relationship.
- Develops, implements, and modifies policies and procedures to keep current.
- Interviews, hires and disciplines personnel pertaining to the department.
- Monitors FTE staffing levels to insure appropriate compliance with current budget constraints.
- Provides periodic in-service training for employees to improve performance.
- Determines staff training needs and schedules in-service education programs to fulfill training requirements.
- Updates staff training needs on an annual basis.
- Evaluates the performance of the employees within the department and recommends pay increases and promotions according to the hospital policy.
- Monitors the quality of completed work performed by staff on a regular basis.
- Assists the staff in attaining performance standards through in-services and training sessions throughout each year.
- Conduct an annual hazard vulnerability assessment (HVA) risk analysis to determine the facility’s risk for natural, technological, Human-caused and other disasters.
- Develop and maintain emergency plans and procedures for disasters identified in the HVA risk analysis.
- Collaborate with the management team in the creation, development, education, training and implementation of disaster plans that are in alignment with the state and other regulatory agencies.
- Know when to activate the facility’s emergency operations plan and hospital command center
- Know the organization’s alert and notification system and procedures, and ensure appropriate staff is educated on this as well.
- Manage disaster response or crisis management activities for the facility. Ensure availability of staff 24/7 to respond to disaster or potential disaster situations.
- Participate in the organization’s Safety Committee meetings and provide appropriate documentation.
- Coordinate the use and routine testing of all disaster related equipment.
- Develop policies and procedures that facilitate compliance and program implementation. Ensure the facility meets all standards in compliance with federal regulations related to emergency management planning, such as The Joint Commission, OSHA, EPA, NFPA, CMS and any other hospital accreditation body.
- Develop relationships and collaborate with partners/stakeholders, both internal and external to the organization, such as other local hospital disaster coordinators, the area healthcare coalition, and emergency medical services, public health, fire and law enforcement agencies.
- Identify and maintain contact information for community response partners and identify how your facility will be notified in an emergency situation.
- Establish a schedule of training and exercise to practice the emergency plans and participate with community partners in community or statewide exercises. Document the results of these exercised in an after-action report to improve the facility’s plan and response activities.
- Perform assigned incident command role during drills, exercises, and real-world emergencies
- Coordinate and meet with department leaders from the organization to work on corrective action plans.
- Represent the organization on various preparedness committees, such as the regional healthcare coalition.
- Manage workplace violence (WPV) issues, WPV trainings, reviews, safety checklists, concerns, etc.
- Other related duties as requested.
Required Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Valid state of Illinois driver’s license
- Familiarity with Incident Command, FEMA, NIMS
- Familiar with or ability to learn life safety codes and policies
- Available to provide support and assistance during emergency situations such as disaster recovery operations
Preferred Qualifications;
- 3-5 years of experience in a supervisory security or emergency management role
