Vascular Technologist/Sonographer
Job Description
Summary:
Minimum Requirements:
Certified Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) and/or Registered Vascular Sonographer (RVS),
The Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) reports directly to the Technical Director and performs all required ultrasound and clinical evaluations at a technical level, not requiring supervision. Assists the Technical Director with the daily operations of the vascular laboratory and training staff as needed. The RVT maintains a high standard of medical ethics at all times and is self-motivated to increase level of understanding and knowledge of the field of vascular disease and new procedures, as they evolve.
Functions and Responsibilities:
1. Performs clinical assessment and diagnostic vascular laboratory examinations.
2. Use cognitive sonographic skills to identify and record appropriate anatomical, pathological and diagnostic images.
3. Coordinates work schedule with the Technical Director and support staff to assure workload coverage.
4. Responsible for safety, mental and physical comfort of the patient while in the technologist’s care.
5. Maintains ultrasound equipment and work areas and maintains adequate supplies.
6. Maintains a daily log of patients seen and completes exam billing forms.
7. Assist with the maintenance of the laboratory accreditation via IAC.
8. Establishes and maintains ethical working relationships and good rapport with all interrelating physician, hospital, referral or commercial agencies.
9. Performs other work-related duties as assigned.
10. Prepares patients for examinations and explains procedures to patients.
11. Assess the patient and correlate the clinical history with the test to be performed.
12. Consults Technical and Medical Director when necessary to determine appropriate vascular lab procedure.
13. Consults with the referring physician and/or patient chart regarding patient’s history, when necessary.
14. Performs the following procedures: venous insufficiency and deep vein thrombosis exams; cerebrovascular, peripheral vascular and abdominal duplex, segmental blood pressure and exercise testing and physiology evaluations and other tests as determined by the Medical and Technical Directors of the vascular laboratory.
15. Operates complex ultrasound equipment, cameras, recorders and other patient assessment equipment pertinent to department needs. Selects appropriate equipment and transducer frequency/size for proper examination.
16. Recognizes the significance of all structures visualized on the monitor and is able to differentiate normal from abnormal and recognize artifacts. Understands when to seek advice.
17. Recognizes the limitations of the electronic equipment.
18. Follows protocols and is able to deviate from normal techniques when clinically necessary.
19. Reviews pathology, surgical and angiography reports to follow patient’s progress and to provide a means of reviewing the accuracy of the vascular laboratory examinations.
20. Prepares a summary of technical findings and reviews findings with the Technical Director and/or Medical Director. Relays preliminary findings and/or final reports to proper referring physicians or departments according to laboratory policy.
21. Keeps up-to-date in the field of ultrasound and vascular technology by reading and/or attending conferences or symposia.
22. Assists in the evaluation of new products and equipment for the lab and in research, development, and formulation of new techniques for vascular laboratory.
23. Assists in the orientation of new staff members and students.

Monday - Thursday, 7am - 5pm
