About the Role
The Physical Education Teacher serves the St. Louis Academy community by promoting the physical, social, emotional, and spiritual development of students through engaging, developmentally appropriate instruction and activities. This role directly supports our values of Faith, Learning, and Culture by fostering healthy habits, teamwork, perseverance, sportsmanship, and respect for others. The ideal candidate understands that physical education is an important part of educating the whole child and is committed to creating a positive, inclusive environment where students are encouraged to grow in confidence, character, and physical wellness while honoring the gifts God has given them.
Responsibilities

Promote Student Growth & Wellness: Plan and deliver engaging physical education lessons that develop students' physical fitness, motor skills, teamwork, sportsmanship, and lifelong healthy habits.

Foster a Safe & Positive Learning Environment: Maintain a safe, organized, and inclusive setting where all students are encouraged to participate, take healthy risks, and demonstrate respect for themselves and others.

Integrate Faith, Character, & Community: Model and reinforce Christian values such as perseverance, integrity, self-discipline, and respect, helping students recognize physical activity as a way to honor the gifts God has given them.

Support School Life & Student Engagement: Assist with school-wide events, field days, athletic activities, and community-building opportunities that strengthen school culture and encourage student participation.
Qualifications & Skills

Experience & Willingness to Learn:
Teaching experience and previous school employment preferred. All adults at St. Louis Academy are expected to model a mindset and behavior of continuous learning and to participate in professional development held throughout the year.

Physical Requirements:

Stamina & Mobility: Sustained walking, standing, and running, often for an entire shift, without fatigue.

Lifting & Carrying: Regularly lifting, pushing, or pulling items, with requirements of at least 20 lbs.

Flexibility & Agility: Frequent bending, twisting, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling to clean corners, under furniture, or in tight spaces.

Upper Body Strength & Dexterity: Ability to handle, control, and manipulate sports equipment and materials.

Climbing: Ability to go up and down stairs and transport items as you climb stairs.

Sensory Abilities: Good vision for supervising students during various activities, identifying hazards, and recognizing surroundings.

Education:
High school diploma or GED required; Indiana Teaching License recommended.

Safe Environment Compliance:
Must successfully pass a background check and meet all Safe Environment and employment requirements of the Diocese of Fort Wayne–South Bend.

Reports directly to the school principal but may be asked to complete tasks by other staff members from the church or school

Performance evaluations conducted per semester

Paid sick leave and vacation time provided in accordance with diocesan and school policies
