Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Addiction Counselor to join our dynamic behavioral health team. Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough client assessments to determine substance use severity, mental health status, and co-occurring disorders, ensuring accurate diagnostic evaluation in line with DSM-5 standards.
- Develop personalized treatment plans incorporating behavioral therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing, and other evidence-based practices tailored to individual needs.
- Facilitate individual and group counseling sessions focused on addiction recovery, mental health support, and relapse prevention strategies.
- Implement crisis intervention techniques and manage emergency situations with professionalism and sensitivity, ensuring client safety at all times.
- Maintain detailed clinical documentation adhering to HIPAA regulations, medical documentation standards, and electronic health records (EHR/EHR) management protocols.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams—including social workers, medical professionals, and community organizations—to coordinate comprehensive care and case management.
- Engage in ongoing research and professional development activities to stay current with advances in addiction medicine, behavioral health, and trauma-informed care.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling or a related field; licensure or certification as an Addiction Counselor (e.g., CADC or equivalent) preferred.
- Proven experience working with individuals with substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions in clinical settings such as hospitals or community clinics.
- Strong knowledge of DSM-5 diagnostic criteria, ICD coding (ICD-9/10), CPT coding, and behavioral health treatment modalities.
- Proficiency in clinical documentation standards, medical terminology, EMR/EHR systems, and maintaining patient confidentiality under HIPAA guidelines.
- Skilled in crisis management, client assessment in therapy settings, motivational interviewing techniques, and behavioral management strategies.
- Experience working with diverse cultural backgrounds and providing culturally competent care is highly valued.
- Excellent communication skills for client engagement, case management coordination, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
