JOIN OUR TEAM AS A FLOOD PLAIN TECHNICIAN II
Responsible clerical, technical, and customer service work concerning the review of permit applications for development within Pasco County. Provides a professional and courteous response via telephone, in person in writing and on-line.
Under the supervision of the Floodplain coordinator, the position performs work of moderate difficulty, gathering, analyzing and interpreting National Floodplain Insurance Program (NFIP) requirements; ensuring compliance with NFIP requirements, proactive participation in the Community Rating System (CRS) Program; compliance with the county floodplain management, and assisting in the development and implementation of other floodplain management related programs. Assists Floodplain Coordinator with Substantial Improvement Estimates, Elevation Certificate review, complex base flood elevation determinations and site visits for violations.
Answers customer questions concerning which construction activities within the floodplain and projects require permitting. Assists citizens with inquiries, complaints, investigations, billing questions and account information. Provides specific information about procedures, floodplain regulations, fees, ordinances, permits, plans, and codes. Assists Floodplain Coordinator with Elevation Certificate review and Substantial Improvement Estimates.
Reviews permit applications within the floodplain for compliance and accuracy. Establishes and maintains files and records. Performs data entry and retrieval using a computer software application. Performs related work as requested by Floodplain Coordinator and/or Flood Program Manager.
PHYSICAL SKILLS: Able to communicate effectively using verbal, written, and visual communication.
EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Graduation from an accredited college or university with an Associate degree in building construction, business administration, emergency management, public policy, urban planning or related field and two (2) years of Floodplain Management experience OR graduation from high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma and two (2) years of customer service experience in an office setting and two (2) years of experience in Floodplain Management experience.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS OR REGISTRATIONS: Must possess a valid Florida driver's license. Must possess a Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM®) Certificate. Certified International Code Council Permit Technician or must obtain within six (6) months from date of hire. Certificate of Attendance from FEMA Emergency Management Institute E0273 preferred. Certificate of attendance from FEMA Emergency Management Institute E0284 preferred.
**Applicants that do not meet the requirements for the Technician II may apply but would be considered for a Floodplain Technician I position at $45,129 - $63,181.**
