Responsibilities
- Assist patients with daily activities such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and mobility to promote independence and dignity.
- Monitor vital signs including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and respiration; document findings accurately within electronic health record (EHR) systems.
- Support medical procedures like catheter care, medication administration, phlebotomy, and aseptic techniques under supervision or as trained.
- Operate patient transfer devices such as Hoyer lifts safely to prevent injury during patient movement.
- Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations while managing medical records and documentation diligently.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams in emergency situations or critical care environments like ICU or trauma centers to deliver prompt and effective patient care.
- Follow infection control protocols and maintain a clean environment using proper manual handling and safe lifting practices.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare staff to ensure clear understanding of care plans and patient needs.
Qualifications
- Valid CNA certification or equivalent licensure required; experience working in long-term care, assisted living, or hospital settings is highly preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology, physiology, and basic life support (BLS) including CPR certification.
- Experience working with diverse populations such as geriatric patients, individuals with developmental disabilities, dementia or Alzheimer’s disease is advantageous.
- Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR/Epic/Cerner/eClinicalWorks) systems for accurate documentation.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting safely and utilize patient transfer methods effectively; manual handling skills are essential.
- Strong communication skills paired with compassionate caregiving approach; ability to work independently or as part of a team in high-pressure environments like emergency medicine or urgent care units.
- Knowledge of infection control standards including aseptic technique and infectious disease care protocols.
