Job Title: Journeyman Pipefitter - Wyandotte, Michigan
Position Summary:
Layout, fabricate, assemble, install, and maintain piping and piping system, fixtures, and equipment for steam, hot water, heating, cooling, lubricating, and industrial processing systems, on basis of knowledge of system operation and study of building plans or working drawings.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Selects type and size of pipe and related materials according to customer specifications
- Inspects worksites to determine presence of obstructions and to ascertain that holes will not cause structural weakness
- Plans sequence of installation to avoid obstructions and activities of other construction workers
- Read, draw, and understand isometric drawings
- Obtain safety work permits
- Cut, clean, and bevel pipe, using hacksaw, pipe cutters, hammer and chisel, cutting torch, and pipe cutting machine
- Threads pipe, using threading machine and check thread depths
- Bends pipe by hand or with pipe-bending machine
- Assembles an installs variety of metal and nonmetal pipe and pipe fittings, including those made of brass, copper, lead, glass, and plastic insuring they are plumb, level and square
- Joins piping by means of threaded, calked, wiped, soldered, brazed, fused, or commented joints
- Complete layouts and rolling offsets, saddles an dead legs
- Read and understand P & ID’s
- Calculate take-offs, odd angle fittings
- Secures pipes to structure with clamps, brackets, and hangers, using hand tools
- Tests piping system for leaks by increasing pressure in pipes and observing gauges attached to pipes for indication of leaks
- May weld holding fixtures to structural steel members
- Problem solve
- Travel to various job sites with own means of transportation to perform work
- Follow all Safety Rules and wear appropriate PPE as required
- Possess tools per required tool list that may require updates
- Mentor Apprentice Pipefitters
- Accurately complete documentation of piping changes, quality paperwork, etc.
- Determine manpower for tasks
- Regular in-person attendance
Education and/or Experience
- High School Degree or Equivalent
- Certificate of Completion from Associated Builders and Contractors Pipefitter Program or equivalent work experience
Language Skills
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret general construction equipment manuals, blueprints, and related materials
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of peers, managers
Mathematical Skills
- Ability to apply basic mathematical concepts such as add, subtract, multiply and divide
Reasoning Ability
- Ability to apply principles of logical thinking to a wide range of practical problems
- Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables
- Excellent human relations skills to communicate with a range of personalities and situations
Physical Demands:
- The employee is regularly required to talk, hear, see, stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, grasp/grip or feel, bend and reach with hands and arms.
- The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move/carry, push and pull up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move/carry up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision; distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- Ability to work at extended heights off of ground
- Ability to stay alert/focused from distractions of activity around area due to possible injury
- Pass fit test for respirator use
- Must pass pre-employment and random drug and alcohol testing
Work Environment:
- The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and vibration
- The employee is regularly exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at office and construction job sites, including temperature extremes, lighting, heights, tight working areas, etc.
- The noise level at job sites is usually loud
