Overview
Join our dynamic healthcare team as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA), where you will play a vital role in enhancing patient independence and quality of life through tailored occupational therapy interventions. In this energetic and rewarding position, you will collaborate closely with licensed occupational therapists, healthcare professionals, patients, and their families to deliver compassionate, effective care across diverse settings including inpatient and outpatient units. Your expertise will help individuals of ages 2-12 —pediatrics—overcome challenges related to neurodevelopmental disorders, disabilities, or recovery from injury or illness.
Duties
- Assist with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as dressing, grooming, feeding, and mobility to promote patient independence.
- Implement treatment plans designed by occupational therapists, ensuring goals are met through engaging therapeutic activities.
- Support pediatric occupational therapy sessions focused on childhood developmental delays and autism spectrum disorder interventions.
- Facilitate patient transport within facilities and assist with manual handling to ensure safe movement and positioning.
- Document care activities accurately in care records while maintaining compliance with healthcare regulations and medical terminology standards.
- Collaborate seamlessly with healthcare professionals—including OTR, Speech therapists, BCBA's—to optimize patient outcomes and update care plans accordingly.
Skills
- Strong knowledge of physiology and anatomy to support effective treatment plan implementation.
- Experience working with individuals with neurodevelopmental disorders, disabilities, or in geriatrics to tailor interventions appropriately.
- Familiarity with medical imaging concepts and medical terminology relevant to occupational therapy practices.
- Skilled in assisting clients with ADLs and providing pediatric occupational therapy for clients with childhood developmental delays or autism.
- Excellent communication skills for engaging with clients, caregivers, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive care delivery.
- Ability to perform patient transport safely while adhering to manual handling protocols.
- Prior inpatient or outpatient experience in clinics or skilled nursing facilities is highly desirable for success in this role.
