Job Summary
The Environmental Services Technician is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary hospital environment in accordance with healthcare standards, infection prevention guidelines, and organizational policies. This role plays a critical part in supporting patient safety, clinical operations, and regulatory compliance through proper cleaning, disinfection, and waste handling procedures.
Perform routine and deep cleaning of patient rooms, clinical areas, offices, restrooms, and public spaces according to established hospital protocols.
Clean and disinfect high-touch surfaces to prevent the spread of infection, including isolation and precaution rooms.
Properly handle, transport, and dispose of regulated medical waste, biohazard materials, and sharps containers in compliance with hospital and regulatory requirements.
Follow all infection control, safety, and personal protective equipment (PPE) guidelines.
Respond to spill cleanup, contamination events, and urgent cleaning requests as needed.
Restock supplies such as paper products, soap, sanitizer, and cleaning materials.
Safely operate and maintain cleaning equipment, including floor machines, vacuums, and disinfectant systems.
Report maintenance issues, safety hazards, or unusual conditions to supervision.
Maintain accurate documentation or logs as required by hospital or contract standards.
Interact professionally and respectfully with patients, visitors, clinical staff, and coworkers at all times.
Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge of proper cleaning and disinfecting techniques, especially in healthcare environments.
Understanding of infection prevention and control practices.
Ability to follow detailed procedures and safety protocols.
Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
Strong attention to detail and reliability.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and patient privacy requirements.
High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Prior experience in hospital, healthcare, or commercial cleaning preferred.
Ability to pass background checks, health screenings, and any required immunizations or clearances.
Ability to communicate effectively and understand verbal and written instructions, safety procedures, labels, and work-related documentation.
Ability to stand, walk, bend, lift, reach, and push/pull equipment throughout the shift.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and around cleaning chemicals and biohazards with proper PPE.
