Job Summary
Montague Area Public Schools is seeking a compassionate and skilled Student Support Specialist to collaborate with school staff, counselors, and community partners in supporting students’ academic, social, emotional, and behavioral success. This role promotes a positive school climate through PBIS, SEL, and restorative practices, supports dropout prevention efforts, and helps identify and address student needs through strong relationships, targeted interventions, and team-based problem solving.
Education / Qualification Requirements:
- Bachelor degree from accredited college or university in Social Work, Psychology, or Human Services
- Previous successful experience working with children at the appropriate grade level preferred
Responsibilities:
- Engage families and strengthen parent involvement in school programs and student learning
- Develop plans for school-based mental health services and counseling to eligible students
- Promote positive school climates using restorative practices and reduced reliance on exclusionary discipline
- Establishing or improving dropout prevention
- Participate in student support meetings, data reviews, and intervention planning teams as needed
- Maintain accurate student records, documentation, and required reports
- Implement tiered instructional strategies to meet diverse student needs
- Collaborate with student support teams to address students’ academic, social, emotional, and basic needs
- Build strong, supportive relationships with students to promote engagement and success
- Contribute to a positive, professional school culture grounded in teamwork, respect, and accountability
- Maintain regular attendance and perform additional duties as assigned
- Engage in ongoing professional learning and instructional improvement through collaboration and coaching
