At The YGS Group, our Digital Print team transforms ideas into high-quality printed products using advanced digital printing technology and skilled craftsmanship. We’re looking for a hands-on Digital Press & Finishing Operator 1st Shift Supervisor to lead our first-shift operation while actively operating digital production equipment.
This role combines technical expertise with leadership. You’ll oversee daily workflow, operate digital presses and finishing equipment, ensure exceptional print quality, develop team members, and work closely with Prepress, Customer Service, Fulfillment, Shipping, and Production to consistently exceed customer expectations.

What You’ll Do
As our Digital Press & Finishing Operator 1st Shift Supervisor , you’ll provide daily leadership while remaining actively involved in production.
You’ll be responsible for:
Production & Equipment Operations
- Operate high-resolution digital presses and finishing equipment to produce high-quality printed products.
- Program, prepare, and release jobs from the print queue.
- Set up production equipment, adjust color, registration, image position, imposition, perforations, folds, and other print specifications.
- Monitor print quality throughout production and make adjustments to maintain color consistency and image quality.
- Verify paper, substrates, and production materials meet job specifications.
- Perform quality inspections and complete required quality documentation.
- Operate and support finishing equipment including cutting, folding, drilling, laminating, and related equipment.
- Monitor automated press systems and troubleshoot production issues.
- Perform routine cleaning, maintenance, and minor equipment repairs.
- Maintain production records, job logs, and delivery documentation.
Leadership & Production Management
- Supervise daily first-shift digital print and finishing operations.
- Plan, prioritize, and assign work to meet production schedules and customer deadlines.
- Monitor workflow and adjust staffing or priorities to maximize productivity and equipment utilization.
- Coordinate production with Prepress, Bindery, Fulfillment, Shipping, Warehouse, and Customer Service.
- Lead daily production meetings and communicate production priorities to the team.
- Train, coach, mentor, and develop Digital Press Operators and Finishing Associates.
- Conduct performance coaching, provide work direction, and support employee development.
- Foster a culture of teamwork, accountability, safety, and continuous improvement.
Quality, Safety & Continuous Improvement
- Ensure all printed products meet customer specifications and company quality standards.
- Perform routine quality inspections and implement corrective actions when necessary.
- Monitor inventory levels of paper, toner, substrates, and production supplies.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe production environment.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, company policies, Lockout/Tagout procedures, and other safety requirements.
- Support Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives that improve productivity and reduce waste.
- Develop and maintain production documentation, standard operating procedures, and departmental performance metrics.
- Support SOC 2 controls and company compliance requirements within the department.

What We’re Looking For
Successful candidates will bring:
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Minimum of 5 years of commercial digital printing experience.
- Minimum of 2 years of supervisory, lead operator, or production leadership experience.
- Experience operating production digital presses such as HP Indigo, Canon, Ricoh, Xerox, Konica Minolta, or comparable equipment.
- Strong knowledge of digital printing, color management, digital workflows, finishing equipment, and print production processes.
- Mechanical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot production equipment.
- Strong organizational, communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and print management software.
- Ability to work additional hours as needed to support production demands.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate’s degree or technical training in Printing Technology, Graphic Communications, or a related field.
- Experience with variable data printing, PDF workflows, imposition software, and digital front ends (DFEs).
- Experience with workflow software such as PrintFlow, FreeFlow, Prisma, Creo, or similar platforms.
- Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma experience.
- Experience leading teams in a commercial printing environment.

Physical Requirements
- Work in a commercial printing production environment.
- Stand and walk for extended periods.
- Frequently bend, reach, twist, and perform repetitive tasks.
- Lift and move materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Safely operate digital production equipment and material handling equipment.
- Distinguish color variations and maintain close visual attention to print quality.
- Work occasional overtime, weekends, or additional hours to support production schedules.
