Law Firm Accountant / Bookkeeper
Location: Columbia, South Carolina
Hours: Monday–Friday, 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. (Some flexibility offered)
Our established two-attorney law firm is seeking an experienced Law Firm Accountant/Bookkeeper to oversee the firm's daily financial operations. We are looking for a dependable, detail-oriented professional who is comfortable working independently and understands the unique accounting requirements of a law practice, including attorney trust accounting.
This position plays a critical role in ensuring the firm's financial records are accurate, organized, and compliant.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and reconcile daily bank deposits
- Issue checks and process firm and trust account disbursements
- Maintain attorney trust (IOLTA) accounts and perform monthly three-way trust reconciliations
- Manage firm operating accounts
- Record and reconcile all financial transactions using QuickBooks
- Process client payments, including credit card and electronic transactions
- Monitor accounts receivable and follow up on outstanding invoices
- Process vendor invoices and maintain accounts payable
- Maintain accurate financial records and supporting documentation
- Assist with monthly and year-end financial reporting
- Coordinate with the firm's CPA for tax preparation and financial reporting
- Maintain confidentiality of all financial and client information
- Perform additional accounting and administrative duties as needed
Qualifications
- Previous law firm accounting or bookkeeping experience required
- Thorough understanding of attorney trust accounting and trust reconciliation procedures
- Proficiency with QuickBooks required
- Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Excel required
- Excellent mathematical, organizational, and analytical skills
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Professional demeanor and excellent communication skills
- Experience with legal billing or practice management software is a plus
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary: $40,000–$50,000 annually, depending on experience
- Monday–Friday schedule: 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. (Flexibility offered)
