Step One Behavioral & Residential is a nonprofit Residential Treatment Center (RTC) in Phoenix, Arizona, dedicated to helping adults with substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions. Our mission is to provide compassionate, evidence-based care in a structured residential environment that supports long-term recovery, personal growth, and lasting stability.
We are seeking an experienced, compassionate Registered Nurse (RN) who is passionate about behavioral health and wants to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those we serve.
Position Overview
The Registered Nurse (RN) provides direct nursing care, medication management, health assessments, and client education within our residential treatment program. Working alongside physicians, therapists, case managers, and behavioral health technicians, the RN plays a vital role in ensuring high-quality, client-centered care while maintaining compliance with Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS) regulations and organizational policies.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer and monitor prescribed medications while observing for therapeutic effectiveness and potential side effects.
- Complete nursing assessments, ongoing health monitoring, and appropriate documentation.
- Collaborate with the multidisciplinary treatment team to support individualized care plans.
- Maintain accurate, timely documentation within the electronic medical record (EMR).
- Respond appropriately to medical concerns, behavioral crises, and emergency situations.
- Provide health education, medication education, and wellness support to clients.
- Ensure compliance with ADHS regulations, nursing standards, and facility policies.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and support a safe, therapeutic environment.
Qualifications
Required
- Current, unrestricted Arizona Registered Nurse (RN) license.
- Minimum of two (2) years of nursing experience.
- Experience in behavioral health, residential treatment, addiction medicine, psychiatric nursing, or a related setting.
- Strong clinical assessment, communication, and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary treatment team.
Preferred
- Experience treating individuals with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders.
- Knowledge of trauma-informed care and recovery-oriented treatment.
- Current CPR/BLS certification.
- Crisis intervention or de-escalation training.
- Experience using electronic medical records (Kipu EMR experience is a plus).
