Barn Hand Duties & Responsibilities
This job generally requires the ability to perform the following tasks:
- Daily duties: Feeding preparation and distribution, muck out stalls, turn in and turn out, cleaning and refilling water containers, empty all garbage and manure buckets, and other general cleaning/maintenance/organizing.
- Operate various pieces of farm equipment.
- Alert management of sick horses or changes in behavior, broken equipment, client needs, potential hazards or repairs needed on site.
Job Type: Part Time / Full Time
Schedule:
- 4 to 8 hour shifts
- Weekends availability
- Holidays to be shared between staff
Education:
- High school or equivalent (Preferred)
License/Certification:
- Driver's License (Required)
Skills needed:
- Interpersonal skills: Must have excellent interpersonal skills, as they interact professionally with owners, managers, students, employees, and equine personnel on a regular basis. Must maintain strong relationships with the clients.
- Mechanically inclined: Skill with basic tools and equipment.
- Physical and mental stamina: May need to assist in lifting up to 75 pounds, fixing, or manipulating heavy equipment or machinery. May need to assist horses that are sick or injured . Must be prepared to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Shows and events: If the barn is involved in or hosting an event, competitive show, or race the barn hand shall help with preparation for such an event.
- Equine Knowledge: Must have knowledge in all aspects of horsemanship and possess a solid working knowledge of basic medical treatments, equine nutritional needs, and equine behavioral management techniques. They must also be very familiar with the breeds of horses under their care, as each breed comes with its own specific quirks and history.
Requirements:
-Must have at least 1 years of experience as a barn hand.
-Must live 30 min or less from Plane View Farm.
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: $17.00 - $20.00 per hour
