North Park Main Street is seeking a dependable, community-minded Maintenance Team Member to help care for one of San Diego’s most vibrant neighborhoods.
This is a hands-on, outdoor position serving the North Park Special Enhancement District. The Maintenance Team provides services beyond the City of San Diego’s baseline level of service, helping create a cleaner, safer and more welcoming environment for North Park businesses, residents and visitors.
The ideal candidate takes pride in their work, notices the details and enjoys making a visible difference in the community.
Schedule expectations: The Friday–Sunday schedule averages approximately 20 hours per week across all three days. Non-event shifts typically begin at 7:00 AM, with some flexibility in the start time. Local event start times may differ and are firm once scheduled. Event schedules are provided at least two weeks in advance.
Essential Responsibilities
- Sweep and clean sidewalks, streets, curbs, gutters and other public areas within the district.
- Collect litter and remove filled trash bags from designated public receptacles.
- Respond to overflowing trash cans, abandoned debris and bulky items in the public right-of-way.
- Remove graffiti, stickers and other markings from approved public surfaces.
- Clean and sanitize areas affected by urine, feces and other biological waste using required safety procedures and protective equipment.
- Power-wash sidewalks and other designated areas.
- Remove weeds and assist with seasonal planting, planters, landscaping and median maintenance.
- Help maintain signs, banners, lighting, wayfinding features, kiosks, decorations and other district improvements.
- Support neighborhood events through setup, cleanup and other assigned maintenance duties.
- Identify and report damaged property, safety hazards and non-emergency public-safety concerns.
- Help coordinate appropriate responses to quality-of-life concerns, including situations involving people experiencing homelessness, using a respectful, calm and non-confrontational approach.
- Document completed work and service requests using a mobile device or maintenance application.
- Communicate professionally with business owners, residents, visitors, coworkers and community partners.
- Follow all safety procedures and properly use, clean and store tools, equipment and personal protective equipment.
- Perform other related duties that support a clean, attractive and welcoming North Park.
What We’re Looking For
- Dependable attendance and consistent availability on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
- A strong work ethic and pride in completing high-quality work.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good judgment and a professional, respectful approach when working in public.
- Ability to use a smartphone to receive assignments, document work and communicate with supervisors.
- Willingness to work outdoors and safely handle cleaning products, tools and maintenance equipment.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Previous experience in maintenance, custodial work, landscaping, sanitation or public-space cleaning is helpful but not required.
- Commitment to treating all members of the community with dignity and respect.
Physical and Working Conditions
This is an active, outdoor position. Team members must be able to stand and walk for extended periods and regularly bend, reach, push, pull, carry supplies and perform repetitive cleaning tasks, regularly lift and carry up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and carry up to 45 pounds. Work may take place in varying weather conditions and near vehicle, bicycle and pedestrian traffic.

Compensation and Benefits
- Starting pay of $21.00 per hour.
