JOB TITLE: Dental Hygienist (RDH)
EMPLOYER: Nurture Family Dental
REPORTS TO: Clinical Lead
EFFECTIVE DATE: Immediate
SUMMARY: The purpose of the dental hygienist is to provide superior dental prophylaxis and patient education related to daily oral health habits, as well as to assist in the diagnosing of dental treatment coordinated with the Dentist. He or she should be able to work with the entire team to treat patients promptly and maximize volume of treatment performed.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Performing prophylaxes.
- Performing scaling and root planning.
- Applying sealants.
- Updating patient health history and all required information.
- Dental charting existing restorations and missing teeth.
- Periodontal charting.
- Taking patient's blood pressure.
- Taking x-rays.
- Taking impressions for diagnostic models.
- Pouring of impressions.
- Presentation of initial findings and recommended periodontal treatment.
- Confidently answering patient questions regarding necessary treatment.
- Entering treatment performed and treatment plans in digital chart.
- Assisting in recare scheduling.
- Disinfecting operatory and sterilizing instruments.
- Assisting the Doctor, Dental Assistants and Front Desk Staff as needed.
- Giving oral hygiene instructions and demonstrations to all patients.
- Assisting in the triage and treatment of emergency patients.
- Administering local anesthetic.
- All other duties as assigned.
SKILLS/CERTS REQUIRED:
- Current license by the State of Michigan
- Excited to learn and grow as a coachable team member.

- Ability to work with interruptions and manage multiple priorities.

DESIRED SKILLS:
- 1-2 years' experience as a Hygienist
- LA certified
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Coordinates patient treatment; Enters recommended treatment into the practice management software.
- Sets up treatment rooms for dental patients.
- Documents patient communication in their charts.
- Encourages patient referrals.
- Collects and records patient health histories.
- Assist with a number of dental procedures.
- Preparation of materials needed to make dental impressions
- Dental charting
- Dental x-rays
- Dental photos and scans
- Impressions and bite registrations
- Delivers patient personal oral care instructions.
- Answers patient questions and concerns regarding recommended treatment.
- Performs a variety of lab procedures including packing cord, scanning or pouring impressions, trimming of models, fabricating of mouth guards, temporary crowns and custom impression trays; prepares casting models and dies; Checks on lab work and checks on overdue lab cases.
- Stocks the treatment room with the necessary supplies needed.
- Serves as the intermediary between patients, the dentist, the hygienists, other dental assistants and the front desk team. Answers questions and updates the team about changes in the schedule.
- Ensures the office, lab and treatment rooms are clean and neat and reflects a professional environment.
- Orders supplies and equipment; restocks supplies as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
