American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an Orthopedics/Med-Surg unit at a Level 1 Trauma Center and major teaching hospital, with a minimum of 2 years of RN experience and at least 1 year of in-specialty experience required.

Orthopedic/Med-Surg overflow unit serving patients who have undergone bone and joint reconstructive surgery, joint replacement, orthopedic trauma surgery, or sports injury

Patient population is adults 18 and older

Typical patient ratio is 1:4, with occasional flex to 1:5

Remote telemetry monitoring managed by an off-unit tech station

Short-term acute care setting within a Level 1 Trauma Center and major teaching hospital (COTH member) with 855 staffed beds
-
Night shift: 7P–7A, 3x12-hour shifts, with both 36-hour and 48-hour weekly contract options available

Every other weekend required

Floating within scope required to meet facility needs

Charting via Cerner

Active WV or Compact RN license required; pending WV or Compact RN license accepted for consideration

Certifications required: BLS; ACLS and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) preferred

Minimum 2 years of RN experience and at least 1 year of in-specialty (orthopedic or med-surg) experience required

Required skills: telemetry, IV start, Cardizem, Heparin, Nitro, Argatroban, Amiodarone, Dopamine (renal perfusion), CPMs, Orthopat, Constavac, Hemovac, wound vacs, and traction

Cerner EMR experience beneficial given facility's charting system

Two manager or charge nurse references from within the past 2 years required for consideration

Driver's license and Social Security card required for consideration

Flu vaccine required during flu season (October 1 – March 31); medical documentation from an allergist or physician required for any exemption

Unit operates under a team nursing model

Orientation is held every other week on Thursdays and Fridays — Thursday consists of a full day in the computer lab; Friday morning continues in the lab, followed by badging and an introductory visit to the unit to meet staff and the manager

Candidates must reside more than 100 miles from the facility to be eligible; candidates residing between 75–99 miles may be submitted for facility approval on a case-by-case basis — local candidates are not accepted

Blocked schedule requests may be accommodated based on unit needs at the manager's discretion

COVID vaccine is not required

Former permanent employees are not eligible to return as travelers until at least 2 years after their last permanent date of employment
