Responsibilities
- Greet patients and visitors warmly, providing exceptional customer service and guiding them through check-in and appointment procedures
- Verify insurance coverage, perform insurance eligibility checks, and assist with insurance verification processes
- Manage multi-line phone systems with professionalism, answering inquiries promptly and directing calls appropriately
- Maintain accurate medical records by organizing, filing, and retrieving documents efficiently.
- Review documentation for completeness and accuracy, ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations and proper coding standards including CPT, ICD-10 codes
- Assist with appointment scheduling using medical office management software; coordinate patient flow to optimize clinic efficiency
- Support medical billing processes by collecting payments and processing billing information related to Medicare or other insurance providers
Skills
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, ICD coding (ICD-10), CPT coding, and healthcare documentation review processes
- Proven ability to handle insurance verification and collections confidently while maintaining patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA guidelines
- Excellent computer skills and familiarity with medical office management software.
- Exceptional patient service skills coupled with professional phone etiquette and effective communication abilities in bilingual settings if applicable
- Prior medical office experience is highly desirable; familiarity with Ophthalmic healthcare environment protocols is a plus
- Strong organizational skills for filing, documentation review, and managing multi-line phone systems in a fast-paced office setting
