Position Summary
Pet Wants is seeking a friendly, dependable, and customer-focused Retail Sales Associate to provide outstanding service to pet owners while maintaining a clean, organized, and welcoming store environment. The ideal candidate enjoys working with people and pets, has excellent communication skills, and is passionate about helping customers find the best nutrition and products for their dogs and cats.
Key Responsibilities
- Greet every customer with a friendly and welcoming attitude.
- Build relationships with customers by learning about their pets' needs and recommending appropriate products.
- Educate customers on Pet Wants fresh pet food, treats, supplements, toys, grooming products, and other merchandise.
- Accurately operate the point-of-sale (POS) system, process cash and credit card transactions, and balance the cash drawer.
- Receive, unpack, and stock merchandise while maintaining attractive product displays.
- Rotate inventory and ensure fresh pet food is properly labeled and stocked according to company standards.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe sales floor, self-serve dog wash, and backroom.
- Assist customers with carrying purchases when needed.
- Answer phone calls and respond professionally to customer inquiries.
- Help fulfill local delivery and online pickup orders when required.
- Monitor inventory levels and communicate low-stock items to management.
- Participate in promotional events, product demonstrations, and community outreach activities.
- Follow all company policies regarding safety, cleanliness, and customer service.
Qualifications
- Previous retail or customer service experience preferred but not required.
- Has a driver's license and clean driving record.
- Comfortable working around dogs and cats of all sizes.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Positive attitude with a willingness to learn.
- Reliable, punctual, and self-motivated.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Basic math and computer skills.
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced retail environment.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Frequently lift and carry up to 40 pounds.
- Bend, stoop, kneel, and reach throughout the workday.
- Push or pull carts loaded with pet food and merchandise.
- Work in a retail environment with dogs and cats present.
