School Cleaning Crew Member
Work Schedule: 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
We are seeking dependable and hardworking individuals to join our school cleaning crew. Cleaning crew members are responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, sanitary, and welcoming environment for students, staff, families, and visitors.
Primary Responsibilities
- Clean classrooms, offices, hallways, stairways, cafeterias, staff areas, and other assigned spaces.
- Sweep, dust mop, damp mop, and vacuum floors. Clean spills promptly and place appropriate safety signs around wet or unsafe areas.
- Dust and sanitize desks, tables, chairs, counters, door handles, railings, and other frequently touched surfaces.
- Clean and sanitize restrooms. This includes toilets, urinals, sinks, mirrors, fixtures, walls, partitions, and floors.
- Restock restroom supplies, including soap, toilet paper, paper towels, and other dispensers.
- Empty trash and recycling containers. Replace liners and transport waste to the designated disposal area.
- Clean interior glass, doors, windows, and mirrors as assigned.
- Remove litter and larger objects from floors, entrances, walkways, and other assigned areas.
- Clean and sanitize cafeteria tables, floors, and food service areas following meal periods and school activities.
- Support room setup and cleanup for meetings, assemblies, school events, and other activities. This may include moving tables, chairs, and light equipment.
- Monitor assigned areas throughout the day and respond promptly to spills, accidents, and urgent cleaning needs.
- Safely handle cleaning products and follow all instructions for proper use, storage, labeling, and disposal.
- Maintain cleaning carts, tools, machines, equipment, and supplies in clean and working condition.
- Notify the supervisor when supplies are running low or when equipment needs repair or replacement.
- Report unsafe conditions, damaged property, leaks, pest concerns, maintenance problems, or security concerns to the appropriate supervisor immediately.
- Keep storage rooms, custodial closets, and assigned work areas clean, organized, and secured.
- Follow school safety procedures, emergency protocols, and infection prevention practices.
- Use personal protective equipment when required.
- Work carefully around students and staff while minimizing disruption to teaching and learning.
- Protect student and staff privacy. Do not read, photograph, remove, or share documents or information found in classrooms, offices, or other school areas.
- Maintain professional and respectful communication with students, staff, families, visitors, and other members of the cleaning team.
- Assist other cleaning crew members and school departments when needed.
- Complete additional cleaning, setup, and maintenance duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Previous cleaning or custodial experience is preferred but not required.
- Ability to follow written and verbal directions.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness and safety.
- Dependable attendance and punctuality.
- Ability to communicate respectfully and professionally.
- Willingness to complete required safety and cleaning training.
- Ability to pass all background checks required for employment in a school setting.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to bend, reach, kneel, push, pull, and perform repetitive cleaning tasks.
- Ability to lift and carry cleaning supplies, trash bags, chairs, and equipment.
- Ability to safely use vacuums, floor machines, carts, ladders, and other cleaning equipment.
- Ability to work with approved cleaning products while following all safety requirements.
