Gateway Underwriters Agency is a general agency serving Independent Agents. Founded in 1954, we are an owned subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway Inc. that operates with binding authority and brokerage agreements with affiliated and non-affiliated company partners. Our product segments include transportation garage, property & casualty, specialty & professional and personal.
Each individual in our Student Program is fundamental in Gateway Underwriters’ production of business. We have multiple departments available for learning and growth as a student team member, including the administrative, marketing/sales and underwriting teams. Each position provides a unique experience dealing with various facets of the wholesale brokerage world from customer interaction, to binding, quoting, and issuing, as well as implementing marketing skills to provide top-notch customer service. Our students are immersed in Gateway’s fast-paced culture and develop both their professional and personal knowledge. This position will include the opportunity for professional development, insurance education, networking, and introduction to a variety of different career paths for future advancement.
We’re looking for someone with great energy, positive attitude and able to work independently and efficiently. They will work directly with the Underwriting staff or Marketing team and learn about the insurance industry. Our office hours are 8:30AM-4:30PM Monday-Friday and can work at least 15 hours a week. The position pays $20.00/hour.

Prepare and process daily quotes

Perform quote follow-ups

Communicate with agents on behalf of Gateway Underwriters account managers to deliver quality customer service
Administrative

Deliver insurance policies and endorsements to customers

Order loss control inspections

Support account managers with the sales process through both verbal and written communication by working as aliaison with both customers and underwriters

Answer phones promptly with a pleasant and helpful attitude and transfer to appropriate Team Member

Assist with gathering state surplus lines affidavits.
Sales and Marketing

Ensure our new customers are set up in our management system

Perform follow ups-email or phone calls on insurance quotes.

Assist in various marketing projects focused on providing quality customer service and driving submissions.

Distributing marketing material through email blasts to our current customers.

Set meeting appointments for sales team with current customers
